Skåne University Hospital (Sus) is one of two hospitals in Sweden that provides national specialized care in pediatric cardiac surgery, which means that children and adolescents aged 0-18 from large parts of the country come to us at the Children's Heart Center. We take genuine pride in having the opportunity to help these children and meet them based on their individual needs. Often, we follow children for a longer period, from when they are operated on until they become adults. The Children's Heart Center includes inpatient wards, day care services, and outpatient clinics in Lund and Malmö. The operation also conducts research in medicine and health sciences. The Children's Heart Center is an important part of the national healthcare mission in pediatric cardiac surgery and has a close collaboration with, above all, the pediatric intensive care unit (BIVA) and pediatric surgery.

Ward 67 in Lund is part of the Children's Heart Center and receives children and adolescents from the southern and central regions of Sweden as well as from Iceland. The majority of our patients are younger and small children with various types of heart defects. The operation is both planned and emergency-based, and we primarily work with pre- and postoperative care. Additionally, we care for children and adolescents with acquired heart and arrhythmia diseases and heart failure, who undergo heart transplantation pre- and postoperatively and are treated with ventricular assist devices. For children who need extra monitoring, there are two intermediate care beds available.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Deputy Chief Physician in pediatric cardiac surgery at Lund University Hospital, you will play a central role in operating and correcting heart defects in newborns and children up to 18 years old. You will work in a multidisciplinary team with high competence. Furthermore, you will participate in preoperative and postoperative assessments and treatments, ensuring that all surgical procedures are performed according to the highest medical standards.

Together with your colleagues, you will conduct outpatient, consultative, and surgical activities. There is an opportunity for on-call duties, where you provide support and guidance to colleagues during on-call hours.

Your role is crucial in ensuring that children with heart defects receive the care and treatment they need to live a healthy life.

QUALIFICATIONS

You who apply are a licensed physician with the authority to practice within Swedish healthcare and have:

• Specialist competence in cardiac surgery.
• Language skills in Swedish at least corresponding to level C1 according to the Council of Europe's level scale.
• Completed or planned course in clinical supervision.
• Full-time service of at least three years (documented effective time).
• Clinical skill and independence in cardiac surgery.
• Completed or planned clinical supervisor training.
• Documented teaching and supervisory merits.
• Previous experience of on-call duties.

Disputation and/or specialist examination can be credited for a total of six months of clinical service.

Furthermore, you should be able to lead discussions at cardiac conferences, contribute to decisions, and independently perform surgical procedures with complexity and risk levels up to RACHS - 4. We also expect you to contribute to the development, education, and research work conducted at the Children's Heart Center in Lund.

At a university hospital unit, it is required that physicians have pedagogical experience and education. This can be acquired through supervision of, for example, nursing and medical students as well as physicians in training and as co- or main supervisors of doctoral candidates. Clearly describe in your application the pedagogical courses you have completed or planned, experience in supervision, and teaching at various levels. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.
