Within the Care Unit (CU) of thoracic surgery, we perform heart, lung, and chest surgery. Each year, we care for nearly 1,300 patients in need of heart surgery and 550 patients in need of lung surgery. This makes our operation currently the largest in Sweden. We have a nationally high-specialized healthcare mission and receive patients from all over the country who need heart or lung transplants and corrective surgery for adults with congenital heart defects (GUCH). Within Region Skåne, we are an ECMO/ECLS center for both heart and lung failure. To support our mission, we also have a complete intensive care unit under our own management.

The care unit is divided into heart surgery and general thoracic surgery, which is performed by full-time employed surgeons. The surgical team consists of 6 surgeons working with general thoracic surgery and about 20 heart surgeons, with the latter group now looking forward to securing the future with another specialist.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a specialist thoracic surgeon with a focus on heart surgery, you are expected to independently manage heart surgeries and objectively assess surgical indications within heart surgery. You will participate in the primary on-call line for thoracic surgery, assist in heart surgeries, staff the care ward, teach less experienced colleagues, and participate in relevant conference activities. Your responsibilities include, depending on your personal competence and ability, also organ retrieval in the unit's transplantation activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

You who are applying are a licensed physician authorized to practice within Swedish healthcare. In addition, you have specialist competence in thoracic surgery. Language skills in Swedish at least corresponding to level C1 according to the Council of Europe's level scale is a requirement. You should have completed or planned a course in clinical supervision and ongoing relevant research. Experience in transplantation activities is an advantage.

It is important that you have good clinical judgment, good communication skills, and that you can clearly and pedagogically convey knowledge and messages. We also value that you have a good ability to take responsibility and make decisions and handle situations where you remain calm and can quickly adapt your working methods based on changing circumstances. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.

At a university hospital unit, it is required that physicians have pedagogical experience and education. You may have acquired this through supervision of, for example, nursing and medical students as well as physicians in training and as co- or main supervisors of doctoral students. Clearly describe in your application the pedagogical courses you have completed or planned, experience in supervision, and teaching at various levels.
