In Umeå Municipality, there are currently six short-term residences under the Act on Support and Service for Certain Functionally Disabled Persons (LSS) for children and young people. At our short-term residences, we support children and young people in developing their independence based on their individual prerequisites.

Sveagatan is a facility offering short-term stays for young people under LSS. The purpose of the intervention is to relieve relatives while simultaneously providing the young people with a change of environment, community, and the opportunity to develop their independence.

We are now looking for a Support Assistant to join our dedicated team!

Your Responsibilities

As a Support Assistant, you work together with colleagues to strengthen the young people's ability to live as independent a life as possible. The tasks vary and can include both social and practical support depending on each young person's needs.

You participate in the planning and implementation of meaningful activities such as sports, walks, cultural events, crafts, or games. The duties also include assistance with intimate hygiene, household chores such as cooking, cleaning, and dishwashing, as well as documentation according to established routines.

The work involves being very active during the day, and there may be heavy lifting and transfers at the workplace. You must also be prepared to handle situations where aggressive behavior, threats, or violence may occur.

You collaborate with colleagues and maintain a professional attitude towards users, relatives, and other stakeholders. Collaboration and joint planning with other support and care services are common.

Working hours are scheduled during days, evenings, and weekends, and the position includes on-call duties (jourkombi).

About You

We are looking for someone who is calm, secure, and engaged – with the target group in focus. You have good collaboration skills, a professional attitude, and enjoy working closely with colleagues, users, and relatives. You are aware that building relationships takes time and use creativity and playfulness in your interactions. Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.

Requirements:

  • Completed the Care and Nursing Program, Child and Youth Program, Social Work Program, or other education that the employer deems equivalent.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities.
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing, to communicate with users, relatives, and colleagues, and to write and read care documentation.

Merits:

  • Experience working with low-affective support (calm and de-escalating approaches).
  • Experience working with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
  • Experience working with young people/young adults with disabilities.
