About SHIS Housing

SHIS Housing is a foundation and Stockholm City's housing social resource. In close collaboration with the city's district administrations and social services, we offer various housing solutions and need-adapted support for Stockholmers who, for social or economic reasons, have fallen outside the regular housing market.

SHIS currently manages approximately 3,200 apartments in about 30 properties in Stockholm. Around 240 dedicated employees with various competencies work here with the goal of helping our tenants achieve their own, independent housing.

Employment and Job Description

The employment is a permanent position with an initial probationary period of 6 months. Start date is by agreement. Your primary workplace is in Västertorp and you report to the section manager for Section 2.

SHIS applies individual and differentiated salary setting according to the collective agreement BÖK Fastigheter. We have zero tolerance for alcohol abuse or drug use.

The Role of Housing Support Worker

Your task is to respond to orders from social services, district administrations, or social services through an implementation plan. Together with the tenant, you work towards the orderer's and the individual's goals for the intervention.

You meet adults with complex social problems. This may involve long-term homelessness, harmful use and addiction, mental illness, neuropsychiatric disabilities, criminality, social isolation, and other factors affecting the ability to obtain and maintain independent housing.

Based on the housing social mandate, you must act in a supportive and motivating manner in your work with the tenant within the life areas covered by the order. The intervention aims to strengthen the tenant's own abilities with the goal of helping them move on to the regular housing market.

Job Duties

The work may involve supporting how to live with protected personal data, helping with authority contacts, and breaking social isolation. Sometimes the support is practical depending on the individual's current needs. Examples of interventions include:

  • Supporting tenants in daily life and helping with contacts with healthcare, authorities, work, school, etc.
  • Supporting the tenant in managing and planning their daily economy.

The work also includes ongoing administration in the form of record keeping, implementation plans, contract writing, administration related to relocation, obtaining documents and certificates, and monitoring rent payments.

You will work in the business system Alfa eCare Welfare and document according to the Social Services Act.

Qualifications

To succeed in the role, you need good knowledge of society's support systems and experience of qualified social work with the target group. We are looking for you who have:

  • Relevant post-secondary education in social work, behavioral science, social pedagogy, or other education that the employer deems equivalent.
  • Current and multi-year experience of housing support with adults with complex social problems (e.g., harmful use, mental illness, neuropsychiatric disabilities, criminality, and/or long-term homelessness).
  • Experience of independently planning, implementing, and following up on individually designed support interventions.
  • Experience of drawing up implementation plans and documenting within social work.
  • Experience of collaboration with social services and other authorities or societal actors.
  • Experience of meeting and professionally handling people in vulnerable life situations and situations that may be characterized by resistance, conflicts, and strong emotions.
  • Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
  • Good computer and system skills.
  • Documented education and practical experience of MI (Motivational Interviewing).

Merits

  • Knowledge of and experience of work according to the Social Services Act.
  • Knowledge of ESL, low-affective handling, or other relevant methods and approaches.
  • Experience of working with co-morbidity.
  • Language skills beyond Swedish.
  • Understanding of LGBTQI+ issues.

Personal Skills and Social Attributes

A large part of the work consists of collaborating with our commissioners, the district administrations, which requires you to be communicative and structured in your administration.

In the work, you meet people with different needs, prerequisites, and motivation for change. You need to be able to create trusting relationships while being clear about the task and able to set professional boundaries.

You are secure and stable in your professional role and maintain a professional approach even in situations characterized by resistance, frustration, and strong emotions. You have good judgment regarding when you can act independently and when you need to involve colleagues, managers, or other actors.

The work requires you to take responsibility for planning and driving your work forward. At the same time, you have good collaboration skills and actively contribute to the work group by sharing information, receiving feedback, and contributing to common working methods.

Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.

The Recruitment Process

Stockholm City works with competency-based recruitment aimed at assessing each person's competence and thereby combating discrimination. In the recruitment process, you should be prepared to provide documentation verifying:

  • The right to work in Sweden.
  • Your education and the role's requirements for documented experience.
  • An extract from the criminal record (presented only before employment).
