We are looking for a case handler for the group on cross-border waste transport at the Environmental Information and Waste Transport Unit. In this role, you will work with permit assessment, guidance, and supervisory guidance in the area of cross-border waste transport, collaborating with other authorities to reduce illegal waste transports to and from Sweden.
The group on cross-border waste transport works with permit assessment and international reporting of cross-border waste transports, as well as handling illegal waste transports. The group's mandate includes guidance, supervisory guidance, and inter-authority cooperation in the area, and the group also supports the government in international and EU work regarding cross-border waste transport issues. The group's mandate also includes analysis and development of processes and working methods.
The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency assesses approximately 1,300 permits annually for the import and export of waste to and from Sweden and handles more than 50 cases annually concerning illegal waste transports.
Responsibilities
You assess incoming permit notifications for cross-border waste transports in accordance with the Waste Transport Ordinance. As part of this, you review and make decisions on incoming cases. If necessary, you request additional information and contact relevant actors and authorities in Sweden and abroad. You also handle illegal waste transports and the measures and contacts required with various actors and authorities.
The responsibilities also include guidance for operators and supervisory guidance for supervisory authorities. Development of processes, routines, and systems that support case handling is included in the responsibilities. The final distribution of tasks and areas of responsibility is influenced by your and other employees' experience and competence. The distribution of individual tasks will vary over time.
Your Qualifications
Requirements:
- Relevant degree from a university or college, e.g., environmental inspector, environmental scientist, environmental engineer, social scientist, or engineer.
- Experience working at a government agency where you have worked with permit assessments, supervision, or supervisory guidance.
- You must be able to express yourself well in writing and verbally in Swedish and English and have good computer skills.
Meritorious:
- Experience of supervisory work within municipal administration.
- Work experience from working with cross-border waste transports and experience working with the Waste Transport Ordinance.

About the Position
The position is a fixed-term full-time employment until 2027-02-28. The position is located in Stockholm or alternatively Östersund. Start date by agreement.
Travel occurs to a limited extent under normal circumstances in the position, primarily within Sweden but can also occur within the EU.
