Do you want to help build something new – and at the same time contribute to students finding their way into the labor market and staying in the Umeå region?

We are now looking for a Career Advisor for a newly established career center at Umeå University – a collaboration between Umeå Municipality Business and the Student Center at the university.

About the position

As a Career Advisor, you will become a key figure in building a career center with the mission to strengthen students' establishment in the labor market and develop connections between students, the university, and the business community.

You will work closely with students, colleagues at the Student Center, and actors within the business community. The assignment combines individual guidance, development of activities, and relationship-building work.

The position is a full-time project employment from 2026-09-01 to 2028-05-25.

Examples of tasks

• Provide individual career guidance and coaching to students and recent graduates.
• Support students in:
  • career choices and goal setting
  • CVs, cover letters, and LinkedIn
  • job search strategies and interview training
• Plan and conduct workshops, seminars, and events related to careers and working life.
• Work with employer contacts, networking, and collaboration activities between students and the business community.
• Contribute to developing the career center's offerings, processes, and working methods.
• Collaborate with educational programs and internal functions to integrate the career perspective into students' study time.
• Contribute to communication and visibility for the career center.

The position involves both operational work in meeting with students and a development assignment in a growing operation.

Umeå University is one of Sweden's largest higher education institutions with over 42,000 students and a strong profile in education, research, and collaboration. The university actively works to strengthen students' connection to working life during their studies.

The new career center is established as a joint initiative between the university and Umeå Municipality. The goal is to:

• create a clear entry point between students and employers
• strengthen students' establishment after graduation
• contribute to the region's long-term competence supply

The career center will become a meeting place where guidance, working life contacts, and activities are gathered – in line with how modern university career centers operate today.

You are employed by Umeå Municipality Business but have your workplace at the Student Center on campus.

Requirements

• University education in behavioral science, for example as a study and career counselor, or other education that the employer considers relevant and equivalent.
• Experience in guidance, coaching, or counseling.
• Good ability to work both independently and in collaboration.
• Very good communication skills in speech and writing in both Swedish and English.
