The Swedish Schools Inspectorate (Skolinspektionen) works for a school system where all children, students, and adult learners receive a high quality of education, equal opportunities, and knowledge in an stimulating and safe environment. Through inspection, we play a vital and driving role in ensuring equality and good knowledge results in Swedish schools. Our operations include supervision, quality reviews, and permit assessments for independent schools. We are located in Gothenburg, Linköping, Lund, Stockholm, and Umeå. Gothenburg, Linköping, and Lund are part of the South Region, while Stockholm and Umeå are part of the North Region. The headquarters with all support functions is located in Stockholm.

We are looking for

An experienced and skilled lawyer with broad competence who wishes to work close to the operations and contribute with qualified legal support in matters important to the agency's mission and development. In this role, you will have a central position where you guide managers and investigators in complex and principled questions that contribute to well-founded decisions.

The Workplace

The position is located in Umeå and belongs to the regional staff. The work is carried out in close collaboration with other regional lawyers, as well as with other lawyers, unit managers, and investigators at the Swedish Schools Inspectorate. You report to the Deputy Regional Director but also work closely with the Regional Director, responsible for preparing principled cases and sanction cases prior to decision-making.

The North Region consists of nine units with a total of approximately 150 employees, of which approximately 100 are in Stockholm. The region shares premises with the headquarters and is centrally located in Stockholm. We have an activity-based office, and the possibility to conclude agreements for remote work exists.

Responsibilities

An important part of the assignment is to translate legal knowledge into practical support for the regional management, unit managers, and investigators. You follow developments within the legal area, inform about new legislation and case law, and contribute to raising the legal competence within the region. You thereby become a key person for both the application of law and knowledge development within the agency.

As a Regional Lawyer in the North Region, you work in a support function primarily handling questions within the field of school law, as well as other legislation within the administrative law area. You will have the opportunity to influence the application of law within the agency. By supporting the operations in principled and guiding questions, you contribute to legally secure decisions, the development of the agency's practice, and uniform application of regulations. The role gives you a unique opportunity to combine qualified legal work with a concrete contribution to the Swedish Schools Inspectorate's important societal mission.

Qualifications

You must have:

  • A law degree and notarial merits or equivalent
  • Several years of current experience in qualified legal work in a consultative role, for example, at a government agency's legal department, court, law firm, or similar

The following is meritorious:

  • Current experience and knowledge of school law
  • Experience in supervisory activities
  • Experience working in appellate courts

To succeed in the role, you need to be independent, confident in your professional role, and have good self-awareness. You have the ability to quickly identify and analyze the core legal issue, as well as a good ability to make relevant delimitations and prioritizations. You are pragmatic, solution-oriented, and close to the business operations, confident in your own assessments, and trust in others' professional responsibility and competence. You have very good ability to express yourself clearly, accessibly, and correctly in both speech and writing. You can convey legal stances to others in a pedagogical manner. Great emphasis is placed on personal qualities.

About the Position

The position is permanent. The Swedish Schools Inspectorate applies a 6-month probation period. The position is full-time. The position is located at the Umeå office. Start date as soon as possible according to agreement.
