The Role

As a Principal Engineer, you set the technical direction for several squads and act as a line manager for a number of Staff and Senior Engineers. You shape the architecture, drive platform development, and create common technical standards that make it easier for teams to deliver secure and reliable solutions. The role is part of Allica's technical leadership and involves close collaboration with the CTO, Product, and other technical leaders.

You work hands-on: designing and reviewing architecture, pair programming with developers, and contributing code to high-priority initiatives. Specifically, this means you will:

• Set and develop technical patterns and guidelines for backend (Kotlin/Java Spring Boot, REST/OpenAPI) and frontend (React/TypeScript) used cross-functionally across multiple squads.
• Drive common platform initiatives that reduce complexity and create reusable solutions, such as shared libraries, observability tools, and infrastructure templates.
• Define and maintain standards for performance, reliability, security, and availability in collaboration with Architecture, InfoSec, Risk, and Compliance.
• Drive architecture and system design for complex initiatives where multiple teams need to interact, focusing on clear interfaces, sustainable solutions, and reduced complexity.
• Shape and improve how we build and operate on Azure, including Container Apps, Static Web Apps, networking, and scaling.
• Drive improvements in developer experience through common tools, automation, and standardized ways of working.
• Lead work on AI-assisted development, from Claude Code and GitHub Copilot to common practices, guidelines, and tracking of effects.
• Act as a mentor and line manager for Staff and Senior Engineers, supporting their development as their technical leader.

You likely have...

...extensive experience working in product companies and designing and delivering distributed systems at scale using Spring Boot (Kotlin/Java), React, and TypeScript. We also believe you have experience defining and implementing technical guidelines and architectural patterns in an organization with multiple squads.

To succeed in this role, you need solid experience with Azure and a good understanding of secure coding and regulatory requirements in financial services. You have experience with personnel responsibility and leading and coaching senior developers. Additionally, you are a strong communicator who can explain complex technical issues clearly and build trust with both technical and business stakeholders.

AI is a natural part of the development work at Allica Bank, so we would like you to be accustomed to using GenAI, such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot. You need to have good knowledge of Swedish and be able to communicate fluently in English.
