The Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV) is Sweden's authority for intellectual property, responsible for patents, trademarks, and designs. We examine and register rights and work to increase knowledge about intellectual assets and their importance for innovation and business. Our mission is to contribute to Sweden's growth and competitiveness by helping companies, innovators, and organizations protect and develop their ideas. We are also the supervisory authority for collective management of copyright and operate in close cooperation with both national and international actors. PRV has approximately 300 employees and operations in Stockholm and Söderhamn, with competencies ranging from engineers and lawyers to IT specialists.
The Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV) is seeking a lawyer for the Legal Unit of the Patent Department.
Here, you will work with qualified legal issues within patent law. You will contribute to both the application and development of patent regulations, provide legal support to the authority, and participate in national and international work. The role involves close collaboration with patent engineers and formalities handlers, offering you the opportunity to take early responsibility in a business where law and technology meet.
The Legal Unit is responsible for the application and development of patent regulations and provides legal support in patent matters to the entire authority. The unit consists of five lawyers who work closely with patent engineers and formalities handlers to contribute to a legally secure and efficient patent process.
The unit handles legal cases within the patent area and works on national and international regulatory development, legal investigations, as well as internal and external training and information initiatives. The Legal Unit is also responsible for legal issues related to defense-secret patent applications.
Job Responsibilities
As a lawyer with us, you will work with various parts of the Legal Unit's areas of responsibility. Your tasks include, among other things:
- handling patent legal cases
- providing legal support to the authority within the Legal Unit's areas of responsibility
- conducting legal investigations and analyses
- contributing to the development and application of national and international regulations
- participating in the authority's work in areas such as AI, data protection (GDPR), and information security
- participating in international working groups, meetings, and other collaborations within PRV's areas of responsibility
- participating in internal and external training and information initiatives
- participating in the Patent Department's work on case law monitoring and quality issues
- collaborating with other departments within PRV and, if necessary, with other authorities and external actors.
The processing of patent applications is process-driven, which means that the questions the Legal Unit has to answer are often concrete and practically oriented. The work involves both managing well-functioning routines and processes and contributing to the development of the operations.
Who are you?
We are looking for you who have:
- a Swedish law degree (equivalent to a Jur. Cand. degree) with a focus on industrial legal protection, preferably with a specific focus on patent law
- good knowledge of Swedish administration
- very good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in both Swedish and English.
It is meritorious if you have:
- knowledge in AI, data protection (GDPR), or information security
- experience of working in a state authority or other public operations.
To thrive in the role, you have an interest in patent law and enjoy working in a structured manner and managing well-functioning routines and processes. Since a large part of PRV's work takes place in an international context, you need to be able to communicate fluently in both Swedish and English.
We place great emphasis on personal qualities.
