The Department of Industrial Economics and Management, which is responsible for education and research in the field of industrial economics and management, is one of six departments at the Faculty of Engineering Science. The department consists of an international and interdisciplinary group of 25 employees as well as several affiliated researchers. The research covers several areas, including (1) entrepreneurship, technological change, and industrial dynamics, (2) leadership and governance in innovative and technology-intensive organizations, (3) productivity, optimization, and efficiency, and (4) implementation and use of innovative energy solutions.

This doctoral position is linked to the research project WorkFlex+, focusing on the future sustainable and resilient hybrid working life. The project is funded by the KK Foundation and is carried out in close collaboration with leading technology-intensive companies such as Ericsson, Telenor, SONY, Storebrand, NKT, Consid, and CodeScene.

Job Description

The doctoral candidate will be active within the research project WorkFlex+. The research focuses on how leadership, governance, and organizational work methods affect employees' well-being, engagement, and long-term attachment to the organization in hybrid and remote work forms within technology-intensive companies.

The work involves planning and conducting empirical studies in close collaboration with companies, which may include longitudinal surveys, interviews, focus groups, observational studies, and/or analysis of organizational data. The doctoral candidate is expected to contribute to the development of new knowledge about how organizations can design sustainable and resilient hybrid workplaces that support both business goals and employee needs.

The work includes collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, scientific publication in international journals and conferences, and presenting research results to both academic and industrial audiences. The research is conducted in close collaboration with corporate partners and also includes participation in the project's Community of Practice and other co-production activities.

The doctoral appointment may include, in addition to work in the research project and doctoral studies, teaching and/or other departmental duties corresponding to a maximum of 20 percent of working time.

Qualifications

To be employed as a doctoral candidate, the applicant must be or become admitted to doctoral studies.

Eligible for admission to doctoral studies in industrial economics and management is someone who has completed an advanced level degree in economics or a technical/mathematical-natural science field, or has otherwise acquired knowledge to be able to benefit from doctoral studies in the subject.

Preferred Competencies and Experience

In addition to the requirements described in the job description and the qualification requirements for the position, the following documented degrees, competencies, and experiences are considered advantageous:

  • A focus/deepening within organization, management, HR, and/or behavioral science studies.
  • Interest in hybrid work, leadership, work environment, and/or organizational development.
  • Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research approaches.
  • Experience with survey studies, interviews, and/or statistical analysis.
  • Good ability to express oneself orally and in writing in English.
  • Experience of collaboration with companies and other types of organizations.
  • Good ability to work both independently and in teams.

Place of Work: Karlskrona.

Employment Level: 100%.

Start Date: By agreement.

Duration: Fixed-term employment for up to 4 years of full-time research. The employment may include up to 20% other assignments, e.g., teaching, whereby the employment period can be extended to a maximum of 5 years.
