ToppTalang is currently recruiting a Chief Legal Counsel for an established and growing law firm in central Gothenburg. The firm has been in operation for over 10 years and provides legal services to both private individuals and businesses, handling client-facing matters including disputes, contracts, and civil law issues.

ABOUT THE FIRM

Our client is a personal and entrepreneurial law firm in central Gothenburg, with offices near Avenyn. The firm works closely with its clients on matters such as disputes, contracts, and civil law issues.

What distinguishes the firm is both its culture and working methods. There is a clear ambition to create a more sustainable legal career than in many traditional firm environments, with lower billing targets than is often common in the industry. This allows more room for quality, reflection, supervision, and collaboration.

As Chief Legal Counsel, you will play a key role in maintaining this work by supervising junior lawyers, acting as a legal sounding board, ensuring quality, and contributing to moving clients' matters forward in a secure and structured manner.

The culture is described as helpful, warm, and non-hierarchical. Legal matters are taken very seriously here, but fun and camaraderie are also valued in daily life.

The team consists of approximately five lawyers, a couple of interns, and administrative support. As Chief Legal Counsel, you will be a central figure in the daily work, responsible for contributing senior legal expertise, structure, and momentum.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Chief Legal Counsel, you will hold a senior and important role in the business. The role suits you if you are confident in your legal expertise and wish to combine qualified legal work with supporting other lawyers, creating structure, and contributing to the team working forward in a sustainable way.

The background to the recruitment is that the business has grown and the founder needs relief in the senior legal role. There is a need for an experienced lawyer who can contribute legal quality, supervise younger colleagues, create an overview of cases, and help the team drive the work forward.

This is a Chief Legal Counsel role with clear senior responsibility, but not a role with heavy formal personnel responsibility or full company-wide budget responsibility. The focus is on legal quality, supervision of junior lawyers, coordination with clients, and creating structure and momentum in the team's work.

You will among other things:

  • have a senior role in ongoing client cases and contribute with legal assessment, guidance, and momentum
  • work with litigation and civil law matters, such as debt disputes, sales law issues, custody cases, contract drafting, and disputes related to contracts, real estate, housing cooperatives, or services
  • participate in client meetings and hold your own client meetings
  • act as a legal sounding board for junior lawyers and read and quality-assure legal drafts
  • contribute to cases receiving the right priority, clear structure, and continued momentum
  • create an overview in the team regarding important cases, client needs, and next steps
  • contribute to a good client experience through clear communication, availability, and momentum
  • participate in oral preparations and, if necessary, attend main hearings
  • help the team work towards common goals where legal quality, collaboration, and sustainable workload go hand in hand

We are looking for you who

We are looking for you who are a confident and experienced lawyer with experience in qualified legal work and client-facing issues. You thrive in a role where you can combine legal quality with supervision, coordination, and support for other lawyers.

REQUIREMENTS

  • At least five years of experience in qualified legal work
  • Swedish law degree or other relevant legal education within Swedish law.
  • Ability to support, supervise, and act as a legal sounding board for less experienced colleagues
  • Very good Swedish and English skills in speech and writing

NICE TO HAVE

It is an advantage if you have experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Civil law disputes and litigation
  • Contract law, contract drafting, and contract disputes
  • Corporate law
  • Process-oriented legal work
  • Debt disputes
  • Sales law issues
  • Real estate-related matters, such as questions related to real estate, housing cooperatives, or services
  • Family law disputes, such as custody cases
  • Economic family law

It is also an advantage if you have experience from the district court, court of appeal, or notarial service, or alternatively experience as a corporate lawyer or in-house lawyer in the private sector.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Scope: Full-time

Location: Central Gothenburg, near Avenyn in nice premises

Work style: On-site, but some flexibility exists

Working hours: Normal office hours with flexible start and end times

Employment: Probation period of 6 months with the intention to convert to permanent employment

Start date: August/September as a realistic time
