We are looking for a University Lecturer in Medical Science for a permanent position at the Department of Medical Sciences. The position is a combined appointment with Region Örebro County.

Subject Area

The subject area for the appointment is medical science with a focus on precision diagnostics.

Background

At the Department of Medical Sciences (MV), basic medical education, standalone courses in biomedicine, as well as doctoral education and research in medical science, are conducted. The department has approximately 200 employees divided into five units, one of which is purely administrative.

Research within MV has access to modern laboratory infrastructure, advanced sequencing platforms, regional biobank operations, and clinical data environments. This enables studies with direct links to patient-oriented diagnostics and the implementation of precision medicine methods in healthcare.

The Faculty of Medicine and Health, together with Örebro University Hospital, is part of an initiative for the development and implementation of precision medicine for Swedish healthcare, Genomic Medicine Sweden (GMS). Additionally, MV is the host node for Clinical Genomics (CG) Örebro, part of the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab), which is Sweden's largest research infrastructure within life science. The current position offers the opportunity to drive and further develop the university's engagement in these national initiatives.

Responsibilities

As a University Lecturer, you will devote your working time to teaching at all levels and research, as well as related collaboration. The responsibilities include, in addition to teaching, research, and collaboration, development work, administration, and competence development. Teaching also includes supervision, examination, course development, planning, and evaluation. The current position is combined with clinical duties.

The scientific part of the position involves conducting independent research, initiating and developing research projects, and actively seeking external research funding. The research should contribute to the emerging infrastructure for precision diagnostics and have natural touchpoints with the development and implementation of next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based methods within the framework of GMS and SciLifeLab Clinical Genomics, where opportunities for collaboration and clinical translation are particularly good.

In addition to the above, there is a specific assignment to develop and drive Örebro University's participation and engagement in GMS- and CG-related projects and structures. This strategic assignment is estimated to correspond to 25-40% of the appointment. The position is a combined appointment with 30% clinical duties.

Qualifications

Eligible for appointment as a University Lecturer is someone who has demonstrated pedagogical skill and has obtained a doctoral degree in a subject area relevant to the appointment, or has equivalent scientific competence or other professional skill that is significant with regard to the subject content of the appointment and the duties included in the appointment.

A general eligibility requirement for appointment as a teacher is the completion of higher education pedagogy training equivalent to at least 10 weeks. Competence equivalent to higher education pedagogy training can be assessed and deemed to form the basis for eligibility. A teacher who lacks higher education pedagogy training or equivalent competence at the time of appointment must complete the training no later than two years after assuming the position.
