School Counselor at International English School Liljeholmen (Fixed-term Contract)

International English School Liljeholmen is now seeking an engaged and relationship-building school counselor for a fixed-term position during the 2026/2027 school year.

About the School

International English School Liljeholmen is a compulsory school (grades 1-9) located in Midsommarkransen, with easy access to both the subway and buses. The school was established in 2014 and currently has approximately 1,200 students and around 130 employees. Our students represent about fifty different mother tongues, and our staff is international, creating a dynamic and stimulating work environment.

Our dedicated teachers, many with international backgrounds, work with clear routines and high expectations to ensure every student reaches their full potential. The school offers well-equipped facilities and an engaged student health team that ensures a stimulating and safe learning environment.

About the Position

As a school counselor, you play a central role in the school's student health work. You primarily work in a promoting and preventive capacity to strengthen students' psychosocial health, social development, and opportunities to achieve their academic goals. At the same time, you are responsible for targeted interventions at the individual, group, and organizational levels.

You will become an important part of the school's student health team, working alongside the school leadership, a fellow counselor, school nurses, special needs educators, special teachers, school psychologists, and school doctors. You contribute psychosocial expertise and work closely with students, guardians, and staff.

At IES, there is also a central student health unit where you will receive support from a coordinating counselor through induction, collegial networks, and continuous professional development.

Responsibilities

The role includes, among other things:

  • Working in a health-promoting and preventive manner to strengthen students' psychosocial health and social development.
  • Providing support to students through individual conversations and group interventions.
  • Conducting psychosocial assessments and investigations.
  • Actively working with the school's attendance promotion efforts, including mapping and follow-up of problematic school absenteeism.
  • Providing guidance and consultation to teachers and other staff on psychosocial issues.
  • Participating in and contributing to the school's student health team.
  • Collaborating with guardians and external actors such as social services, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (BUP), and other authorities.
  • Contributing to the school's work on safety, equal treatment, and the fight against discrimination and bullying.
  • Participating in the school's crisis work when necessary.

We are looking for you who

  • Are a qualified social worker.
  • Have experience working with children and young people, preferably as a school counselor.
  • Have good knowledge of child and adolescent development as well as the laws and regulatory documents governing student health work.
  • Have experience with counseling methodologies and feel confident in both individual conversations and group work.
  • Easily build trusting relationships with students, guardians, and colleagues.
  • Work in a structured, independent manner and take responsibility for driving your work forward.
  • Have good collaboration skills and thrive in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Have a solution-focused and professional approach, even in complex situations.

About the Position

The position is a fixed-term contract from August 2026 to April 2027.

Interviews are conducted on a rolling basis, and the position may be filled before the application deadline.
