The Municipal Executive Office is responsible for supporting operations within finance and quality, HR and communication, digitalization and development, law and security, democracy and administration, contact center and events, as well as growth and business. Together, we support the municipality's operations, handle strategic assignments, and provide service to our residents.

The Role

As part of the Finance and Quality Unit, we are looking for a Senior Accountant. Here you will have great opportunities to influence and develop quality-assured and efficient financial and accounting processes. The unit is led by the Finance Manager and consists of nine employees. In addition to the Finance Manager and the Senior Accountant, there are two finance assistants, two municipal controllers, two business controllers, and a procurement coordinator. Within Skara Municipality, there are also seven controllers in other departments working in close collaboration with the unit. Skara Municipality collaborates with five other municipalities in western Skaraborg using a shared financial system and system administrators for different parts of the system. Collaboration also takes place in various working groups.

As the Senior Accountant, you have overall responsibility for the municipality's accounting and annual reporting work. You work with and ensure that the entire accounting process maintains high quality and complies with current legislation and recommendations. You develop procedures and guidelines to improve and streamline the accounting process. Together with the unit's employees, you will work operationally in ongoing accounting, interim and annual reporting, as well as consolidated reporting at the group level. As the Senior Accountant, you work to ensure that reporting is fair from an accounting perspective and that the municipality follows good accounting practice. Your duties include planning and structuring the work throughout the year and prior to the annual report, as well as staying updated on current accounting rules and regulations. You are also responsible for reporting to other government agencies such as Statistics Sweden (SCB).

Key Responsibilities

  • Development and streamlining of accounting procedures and processes.
  • Interim and annual reporting with consolidated reporting.
  • Involvement in the preparation of the annual report.
  • Support and advice on accounting matters within the municipal group.
  • Reporting and contact person for banks, auditors, SCB, and others.
  • Ongoing accounting and quality assurance of bookkeeping.

  • Is an engaged team player who contributes to a good atmosphere and collaboration within the group and in other collaborative forums.
  • Has the ability to independently plan, organize, and prioritize work efficiently, with the capacity to see the big picture and understand all work-related issues of the unit from a broader perspective.
  • Contributes to knowledge development across the organization in various parts of accounting.

Qualifications

  • University degree in economics with a focus on accounting or other relevant education deemed equivalent by the employer.
  • Several years of experience in qualified accounting work, including annual reporting.

We will place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Merits

  • Experience working in a similar central role within municipal or public sector operations.
  • Knowledge of the financial system Raindance.
  • Experience with VAT reporting.
