WE WANT SWEDEN'S HAPPIEST RESIDENTS. ARE YOU WITH US?

In Flens Municipality, we are investing in building something long-term. A society where people thrive, grow, and stay. Our new and bold vision, Flen – Sweden's Happiest Municipality, is more than just words. It is a direction we have chosen together and a reminder of who we are here for. In every meeting with a resident, in every decision we make, in every day we shape – we should think with our hearts. And it starts with us. We are now looking for a School Counselor for the Child and Student Health Service.

Do you want to make a real difference for children and young people in Flens Municipality? Do you thrive in a role where you work independently in schools while being part of a strong, supportive network of colleagues? Then you might be the School Counselor we are looking for!

HERE ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

As a counselor with us, your daily work takes place at one or more of Flens Municipality's primary schools. Your mission is to drive psychosocial work and contribute to creating a safe and stimulating study environment for our students.

Main responsibilities

  • Conduct psychosocial work at the individual, group, and organizational levels.
  • Offer support, motivational, and crisis counseling to students, as well as consultation to guardians and school staff.
  • Actively participate in the school's local Student Health Team (SHT) together with the principal and other professionals.
  • Collaborate with external parties such as Social Services, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (BUP), and the Region when needed.
  • Work preventively and health-promotingly against issues such as bullying and absenteeism.

Your role has a well-functioning structure:

  • Leadership at the school: The principal at the school(s) where you work leads and distributes your daily tasks on-site.
  • Organizational affiliation: You are employed within the central Child and Student Health Service and report to the Head of the Child and Student Health Service.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS ROLE:

You are confident in your professional role, have a good manner of dealing with people, and the ability to build good relationships with both young people and adults. You are flexible as the work takes place in different settings, but you also have good organizational skills.

Requirements for the position:

  • A degree in Social Work (Social Work) or another higher education qualification that the employer considers equivalent.
  • Experience working with children and young people.

WE VALUE THE FOLLOWING HIGHLY

  • Experience working as a school counselor or in another politically governed organization.
  • Knowledge of the Education Act and legislation concerning children and young people.

YOUR PERSONAL QUALITIES

To succeed and thrive in this role, we see that you have the following qualities:

  • Relationship-building and communicative: You have a good ability to meet children, young people, and adults in a professional and trustworthy manner. You are a good listener who creates a sense of safety around you.
  • Independent and flexible: Since you work out in the schools and have your daily life there, you need to enjoy taking initiative, prioritizing your tasks, and quickly adapting when the situation requires it.
  • Team-oriented: You understand the value of the team. You collaborate without hierarchy with school staff and principals, while also being an active and generous colleague in our central counselor team.
  • Stable and secure: You have good self-awareness, are confident in your professional role, and can maintain a calm and analytical approach even in more complex or acute situations.

WHY WORK WITH US?

In Flens Municipality, we want to give you good conditions to thrive both at and outside of work. We offer, among other things, holiday swapping, wellness benefits, and reimbursement for patient fees up to the high-cost protection limit – and there are more benefits than that. Many of our workplaces also have good commuting options. The Town Hall in Flen is just a stone's throw from the train and bus station.

In Flens Municipality, you never have to feel alone in your profession. We place great emphasis on community and competence development:

  • The Counselor Team: You are part of a network with the municipality's other primary school counselors – an invaluable group for exchanging experiences, collaborating on difficult cases, and receiving collegial support.
  • The Child and Student Health Team: You become part of the entire central student health service. This means joint workplace meetings (APT), regular development days, and other competence-building initiatives together with counselors, psychologists, speech therapists, and special education teachers.
  • Do you want to make a real difference for children and young people in Flens Municipality? Do you thrive in a role where you work independently in schools while being part of a strong, supportive network of colleagues? Then you might be the School Counselor we are looking for.
