Do you want to lead the development of new radar technology to strengthen Sweden's defense and security? Are you interested in applied research in close collaboration with subject matter experts and clients? Then FOI could be your new workplace! We offer a balanced work-life, a stimulating work environment, and socially important work!
About the position
The Swedish Armed Forces' demand for FOI's expertise in future radar technology is increasing significantly, and the new digital radar technology currently being developed requires extensive research and development efforts. In this role, you will design, plan, and lead research and development projects for future radar systems. To succeed in this, you must be able to maintain good dialogue with our clients and partners and have strong oral and written reporting skills. The ultimate goal of the work is to assess the benefit that new technologies, methods, and products within the radar field can bring to Sweden's defense.
The position also offers the opportunity to participate directly in the technical work within the projects. The duties include written reporting in Swedish and may involve scientific publication. Initially, the work may be more technically focused with the aim of familiarizing yourself with our operations.
About the unit
You will join the Robusta Radar Systems unit, which belongs to the Electronic Warfare department. The unit analyzes and evaluates methods and techniques for radar surveillance and monitoring, analyzes the characteristics and performance of the Swedish Armed Forces' radar systems, and develops new radar system concepts. The unit also conducts measurements, modeling, and simulation, develops signal processing methods, creates experimental radar systems, and assesses the consequences of new technical developments, e.g., in the drone area and the application of radar surveillance satellites.
Do you have the competence profile we need?
Requirements
We are looking for someone who has:
- A technical/scientific Master of Science degree or an education that FOI assesses as equivalent.
- Experience working with radar or in a field that FOI assesses as technically/scientifically closely related, such as radio, microwave technology, telecommunications, or sensor technology.
- Experience working as a project manager or in other roles involving leadership of researchers or engineers, e.g., as a tech lead, lead engineer, system owner, or similar.
- Experience in independently planning projects and being responsible for documentation and reporting of results.
In addition to your formal qualifications, we place great emphasis on your personal qualities. The work is carried out both individually and in groups, so you need to be self-reliant but also have good collaboration skills. You have strong analytical abilities, are structured and proactive, and can communicate clearly both orally and in writing in Swedish and English.
Meritorious
Experience working within the Swedish Armed Forces or other parts of the defense sector is meritorious. A doctoral degree is also meritorious but not a requirement.
