Your Workplace

We are an inpatient ward with 10 beds for adults over 18 years of age with severe psychiatric issues. Patients you may encounter here include:

• psychosis, which can be substance-induced, crisis-related, or organic
• schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder
• other acute psychiatric illnesses such as severe self-harm behaviors and high suicide risk

The ward is located in the Psychiatric House in Karlstad and works in close collaboration with other units within psychiatric inpatient care.

On the ward, there is a coordinator working during daytime hours, alongside nurses who lead the daily operations and nursing assistants who carry out psychiatric nursing care. All staff rotate schedules between day, evening, and weekend shifts. We have close staffing levels, believing that having time for good psychiatric nursing care benefits our patients and their relatives. Together, we systematically work on our work environment where everyone is involved, and among colleagues, there is a high degree of openness and mutual care.

Together with other actors within the region, we have the mission to provide equitable, needs-based, and cost-effective care for patients and their relatives. The psychiatric inpatient care consists of approximately 200 employees with various professional backgrounds. We are in the midst of a change process to meet today's and future needs for severe psychiatric illnesses, with the patient firmly at the center of focus.

We work according to a fixed, rolling 10-week hybrid schedule with mainly day, evening, and weekend shifts, and occasionally single night shifts. The schedule was created together with the staff group, and we are proud of the joint effort behind a sustainable work-life balance.

Your Responsibilities

With us, you will perform medication follow-ups in close collaboration with doctors, as well as standard medication management. As a nurse, you will be responsible for nursing care and participate in treatment interventions for patients. All staff on the ward work with skills training and maintain a low-affective approach. The job also involves collaborating with care neighbors, participating in SIP meetings, developing care plans, and conducting assessment interviews.

The activity offers competence development and the opportunity to be involved in the work and develop psychiatric inpatient care.

Your Knowledge and Competencies

We are looking for you who are a registered nurse. Specialist education in psychiatry is an advantage. All experience within psychiatric inpatient and outpatient care is an advantage.

You have good collaboration skills and are a skilled communicator who builds and develops relationships. You take initiative and adapt easily to changed situations.
