Nurse for the DBS/FUS Unit at the Neuro Clinic, Region Västerbotten
Region Västerbotten works to ensure that good health and sustainable development strengthen each other. We take responsibility for an equitable welfare system and for ensuring that research and innovation yield results.
At the Neuro-Head-Neck Centre at Umeå University Hospital, approximately 600 people currently work with various aspects of the investigation, treatment, and rehabilitation of diseases and injuries affecting the nervous system, brain, ears, nose, and throat. Our patient base consists of individuals requiring highly specialized care from northern Sweden.
The Neuro Clinic is a specialist outpatient clinic for neurology and neurosurgery. We receive patients referred by physicians who have assessed that specialist competence is required. In addition to general neurological and neurosurgical clinics, there are several diagnosis-related teams working within NIM (Neuroimmunology such as MS), Parkinson's, Epilepsy, ALS, NPH (Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus), and DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation), involving various professional categories.
Do you want to work with highly specialized neurological care and be part of the technological development in the treatment of movement disorders? We are now looking for a nurse for the Neuro Clinic's DBS/FUS unit.
Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and Focused Ultrasound (FUS) are advanced treatment methods for patients with neurological diseases and require lifelong follow-up to continuously optimize and control the function and effect of the treatment.
The treatments are primarily used for Parkinson's disease, essential tremor (ET), and dystonia, but also in some cases for other severe neurological conditions. FUS serves as an alternative to DBS, especially for patients with essential tremor. In FUS treatment, ultrasound is used, guided by magnetic resonance imaging, to create a small, precisely placed lesion in the brain.
The work combines advanced medical technology with close and long-term patient contact, offering significant opportunities for competence development within a unique neurological subspecialty.

Job Responsibilities
As a nurse with us, you contribute knowledge, engagement, and professional interaction that makes people feel secure.
As a nurse within the DBS/FUS unit, you will become part of a multidisciplinary team where you participate in planning, investigation, operative treatment, and especially the long-term follow-up of patients who have undergone DBS or FUS treatment. An important part of the job is also to conduct own nurse visits and provide support, information, and counseling to patients and their relatives.
The Neuro Clinic at Norrlands University Hospital receives patients from the entire northern healthcare region. As a nurse, you play a central role in the planning, implementation, and follow-up of patients' treatment. You also serve as a knowledge resource and advisor for nursing colleagues within and outside the region.
The duties include, among other things, planning clinic operations, coordinating care efforts in outpatient care, booking and calling in patients for doctor and nurse visits, providing telephone advice, and following up on treatments. You also actively participate in the unit's quality and development work, collaborate with external actors, and contribute to the supervision of staff and students.
The work involves significant personal responsibility for the patients' treatment and follow-up, while you are an important part of a multidisciplinary team where close collaboration is a prerequisite for good care outcomes. The tasks are varied, and you are given ample opportunity to plan and structure your workday based on the unit's needs and assignments. In collaboration with other clinics within the base unit, work at another unit or with different working hours may occur during, for example, vacation periods and occasional weekends.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who are a registered nurse. Meritorious is a general scientific interest, as many of these patients are included in scientific studies.
We are looking for you who are engaged, curious, and have a desire to develop within a highly specialized area. The work also requires that you have the ability to acquire knowledge about and handle modern navigation systems, programming devices, and other advanced medical technical equipment. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
We would like you to work in a structured manner, have good analytical skills, and enjoy combining patient-facing work with technically advanced tasks. At the same time, you find it easy to build trusting relationships with patients, relatives, and colleagues.
