The Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE) at Linköping University welcomes applications for a position as Senior Research Engineer within the research group led by Associate Professor Glib Baryshnikov. As a Senior Research Engineer, you will contribute to the development and computational studies of UV-stimulated long-lived radical systems for advanced functional materials and optoelectronic applications.

The Laboratory of Organic Electronics belongs to the Department of Science and Technology and is known for its world-leading research on electronic and optical components based on organic materials. The main research area covers the coupling between ions and electrons as signal carriers for applications in organic bioelectronics, printed electronics, organic energy, electrochemical components, and nanooptics. Currently, the laboratory's research staff consists of approximately 200 researchers, including professors, senior and junior researchers, as well as doctoral students. See https://liu.se/en/research/laboratory-of-organic-electronics (https://liu.se/en/research/laboratory-of-organic-electronics) for more information.

Research Area

The position is located within the research activities of Glib Baryshnikov's group, which focuses on the theoretical design and understanding of open-shell molecular systems, organic radicals, and photoinduced processes in functional materials. Ongoing research addresses the generation, stabilization, and control of long-lived radical species in molecular and polymeric systems, with applications in organic electronics, photonics, energy conversion, and information storage. Particular emphasis is placed on mechanisms of UV-stimulated radical formation, excited-state dynamics, spin-dependent phenomena, and structure-property relationships that govern radical persistence and functionality. The research combines quantum chemical modeling, atomistic simulations, and multiscale computational methods to establish predictive design principles for next-generation radical-based materials.

About the Job

The position entails:

  • Leading computational studies of UV-stimulated long-lived radical systems.
  • Performing and developing calculations using Density Functional Theory (DFT) for the analysis of electronic structure, excited-state properties, and radical formation mechanisms.
  • Conducting molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to investigate structural dynamics, radical stability, and environmental effects.
  • Performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to model transport phenomena, component performance, and material behavior at larger scales.
  • Collaborating closely with experimental researchers to interpret results and guide material design.
  • Contributing to scientific publications, reports, and research proposals.
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of computational infrastructure and simulation methods within the group.
  • Contributing to the supervision of doctoral and master's students.

About You

We are looking for you who have a PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science, computational science, chemical engineering, or a related field.

Requirements for the position are:

  • Extensive experience with simulations using Density Functional Theory (DFT).
  • Strong background in molecular dynamics simulations (MD).
  • Experience with methods and software for Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in English.

Meritorious qualifications for the position are:

  • Experience in radical chemistry, organic electronic materials, or photochemical processes.
  • Experience in calculations of excited states and photophysics.
  • Experience in supervising doctoral and master's students.
