Your responsibilities

Students in Västerås have the opportunity to study German, Icelandic, and Hindi as their mother tongue, which we are very proud and happy about. For students studying German, Icelandic, and Hindi, one hour of instruction per week is offered, in accordance with students' right to study their mother tongue. As a mother tongue teacher, you work 40–50% with mother tongue instruction and study guidance. You belong to a language group and are part of a work team with other qualified teachers. The work team meets regularly. You will teach students in their mother tongue and provide support for their learning in school.

Your qualifications

We are looking for you who are a qualified teacher in Sweden with the eligibility to teach in the mother tongue. Alternatively, you have a teaching degree from your home country that is validated in Sweden. You have previous experience teaching in the mother tongue and have German, Icelandic, or Hindi as your own mother tongue. We also value that you have experience working with children and young people and communicate fluently in Swedish, both orally and in writing.

You lead, motivate, and create understanding among students and have a good ability to build relationships. You collaborate well with others but also thrive in independent work. Just like us, you are motivated by creating high-quality teaching.

We offer

At the Center for Multilingualism, we offer mother tongue support, mother tongue instruction, and study guidance for approximately 4,800 children and young people from preschool class to upper secondary school who study their mother tongue. We are 160 educators teaching in more than 48 different languages. We work with mother tongue instruction, study guidance as individual support for the student in school, as well as language support for children in preschool class.

For this recruitment, we are seeking hourly positions and specific fixed-term positions.

Before you can be employed, we conduct a register check, and you need to present a clean police record extract.

During the interview, you need to prove your citizenship. You can do this with a passport or alternatively a certificate of personal status together with an ID document. If you are not a citizen of Sweden, the EU, EEA, or Switzerland, you must show that you have a valid work permit or are exempt from the requirement to have a work permit. Employment can only take place after verification of the work permit, which is required according to the Aliens Ordinance.
