Specialist in Palliative Medicine at Enköping Hospital
Welcome to Enköping Hospital – great care in a small-scale setting!
Here, approximately 700 dedicated colleagues work in an environment where close collaboration and community are second nature. We are located in an expanding region with convenient commuting options to Stockholm, Uppsala, and Västerås. For those considering relocating to live close to work, the Enköping region has much to offer.
The hospital provides emergency and planned care for approximately 72,000 residents in Enköping, Håbo, and Södra Heby, and we also have specialist responsibilities throughout the entire Uppsala County. Here, you can make a difference – for the patients and for the operations – in a work environment where we are constantly developing together. Do you want to become part of our team? You are warmly welcome to Enköping Hospital!
Our Operations
The Medical Department at Enköping Hospital consists of a medical clinic, a 24/7 emergency clinic, an Intermediate Care Unit (6 beds), two inpatient wards (48 beds), and Hospital-Linked Home Care (LAH) with approximately 40 patients at home and 6 inpatient beds. Our medical staff currently consists of 21 specialists/senior consultants, 8 specialty trainees (ST-doctors), and several assistant doctors. We also have observing specialty trainees, AT-doctors, and medical students in the department.
On our wards, we treat patients of all ages with various medical conditions. However, the majority of our patients are older individuals with complex chronic diseases, where there is a suspicion of palliative care needs in approximately 60-70% of cases. During 2025/2026, the clinic, supported by funds from the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), has focused on strengthening palliative competence, increasing adherence to care pathways in palliative care, and introducing Serious Illness Conversations (SVAS) as part of the clinic's working methods.
LAH provides specialized home care for patients with palliative and medical care needs. LAH's mission is to care for patients in their homes, but also on our inpatient ward if necessary. We work for a holistic care chain to create security for the patient, with a palliative approach based on the patient's physical, psychological, social, and existential needs. Here, a specialist in palliative medicine, a specialist in general practice, and observing specialty trainees work together.
Your Role
As a specialist in palliative medicine, you will be placed 50% at LAH and work in the specialized palliative operations. The remaining 50% will involve continuing work to develop general palliative care within the medical department. This part of the position is initially funded by project funds from the RCC for up to 1 year.
Your Qualifications
We are looking for you who are a specialist in palliative medicine with a strong interest in clinical teaching and supervision. You have good leadership and collaboration skills, you are responsible, and you keep the patient in focus. You command Swedish fluently in both speech and writing. Being a double specialist is meritorious, as is having a PhD. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
What We Offer
Permanent employment with palliative development work 50% for up to 1 year. Start date by agreement. Here you receive benefits that make a difference; read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/ (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/)).
