Do you want to work with animal welfare and food safety, supported by competent and helpful colleagues? Do you want an employer that invests in sustainable employment and offers secure, advantageous working conditions? Welcome to the role of Official Veterinarian at the Swedish Food Administration!
A sustainable employment
The Swedish Food Administration actively works to offer all employees a sustainable employment. We provide you with a good introduction when you start with us, and we offer secure working conditions and good benefits. We want you to feel that it is enjoyable to go to work, and that what you do is important. As an Official Veterinarian, you contribute to Sweden having good animal welfare and safe food. As a veterinarian at the Swedish Food Administration, you have independent work, but when facing difficult decisions and situations, your knowledgeable colleagues are just a call away. Here you become part of a team where we help and support each other in daily work. Together we make a difference!
A socially important mission
As an Official Veterinarian, you contribute to Sweden having good animal welfare and safe food. In your work, you are responsible for live animal inspections and post-mortem inspections. You work to identify any deficiencies in animal welfare by examining the animals arriving at the slaughterhouse and how the company's employees handle the animals. You ensure that the animals are healthy at both the individual and flock level, and assess whether the meat after slaughter can be approved as food.
As a public authority official, you have an important mission towards the business owner. You have a control function, but you should also act as support and facilitate for the business owner to do the right thing. You do this by informing about what good animal welfare entails, the animals' needs and species-specific characteristics, and by helping to create an understanding of hygiene and food safety in food production.
Team Svealand
You will belong to the Northern Sweden department in Team Svealand, with placement in Örebro or Kristinehamn. Here you work together with engaged, helpful, and pleasant colleagues, both official veterinarians and food controllers.
Travel in connection with control assignments is included in the position. It may become relevant to work at another location within the unit.
The Swedish Food Administration works actively with team development and has many employee benefits; health care and additional vacation days are some of these.
Your competencies
To be able to work as an Official Veterinarian with us, you must have a Swedish veterinary license, or a veterinary license from another country approved by the Swedish Board of Agriculture for professional practice in Sweden.
You must also have a B driving license, good knowledge of Swedish, and be able to understand and make yourself understood in English. Good administrative skills and good written Swedish skills are also highly valued for this position.
As a person, you need to be flexible, punctual, efficient, and able to make your own well-founded decisions and initiatives. You have high personal maturity with the ability to reflect on your own strengths and areas for development, and you can see and contribute to the whole picture. You dare to make the decisions required in consultation with your colleagues and manager. You have good cooperation skills and help without hierarchy where needed. You keep yourself updated on the latest within your field of knowledge and are happy to share your knowledge and experience. At the same time, you are open to learning from others. It is together with your colleagues that you succeed and develop.
Talks in meetings with business owners and in contact with other stakeholders are also part of the work, which requires that you are clear, professional, and responsive in your communication, while being secure in your role as a public authority. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability.
