Are you a veterinarian or food control inspector and want to work with animal welfare and food safety when you have the opportunity? We are looking for you who want a temporary hourly position with the possibility to say yes to shorter or longer assignments when it suits you in the area of Örebro County and Värmland County.
A socially important assignment
As an official veterinarian at the Swedish Food Agency, you contribute to Sweden having good animal welfare and safe food. In your work, you are responsible for, among other things, live animal inspection and post-mortem inspection, which involves both animal welfare controls and assessments of whether the meat can be approved as food. You inspect the animals arriving at slaughterhouses and are an important part of the chain for safe food. The role involves varying tasks, and one day does not have to be like the next, and you have an important role in contributing to the development of the operation.
As a food control inspector at the Swedish Food Agency, you are an important link in the chain for safe food. You are a public official with a supervisory role, but you should also act as support and facilitate for the business owner to do the right thing. You are responsible for inspecting animal carcasses after slaughter and making an assessment of whether the meat can be approved as food or should be further examined by an official veterinarian. You may also be assigned to take some samples. You get good opportunities to deepen your knowledge in animal welfare, pathology, microbiology, and food safety, while also learning a lot about food production.
As a public official, you have an important assignment towards companies. You have a supervisory function, but you should also act as support and facilitate for the business owner to do the right thing. You do this, for example, by informing about what good animal welfare means, about the animals' needs and species-specific characteristics, and by helping to create understanding for hygiene and food safety in food production.
Team Svealand
You will belong to the Northern Sweden unit and the Svealand team. The areas covered by the position are; Örebro County and Värmland County.
Here you work together with engaged, helpful, and pleasant colleagues, both official veterinarians and food control inspectors.
Travel is included in connection with the supervisory assignments of the position. It may become relevant to work at another location within the unit.
Your competencies
To work as an official veterinarian with us, you must have a Swedish veterinary license, or a veterinary license from another country approved by the Swedish Board of Agriculture for professional practice in Sweden. You must also have a B driving license and good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing, as well as the ability to understand and be understood in English. Good administrative skills are also highly valued for this position. As a person, we would like you to be curious and want to try contributing to good animal welfare and safe food. You need to be flexible, punctual, and able to make your own well-founded decisions and initiatives. You have high personal maturity with the ability to reflect on your own strengths and areas for development, and you can see and contribute to the whole picture. You dare to make the decisions required in consultation with your colleagues and manager. The team is characterized by a strong team spirit with a large focus on alignment, which gives great opportunities to develop both in subject matters and from a holistic perspective.
To work as a food control inspector with us, you must have studied year 3 of the Swedish veterinary education with a pass in the course for food safety, or have equivalent knowledge from another EU-approved veterinary education. For those studying abroad, you must also be approved in the course/courses in food hygiene. You are also eligible if you are a veterinarian but lack a Swedish veterinary license, or have taken the Swedish Food Agency's education for food control inspectors. You must have good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing. As a person, you need to be flexible, punctual, and able to make your own well-founded decisions and initiatives. You have high personal maturity with the ability to reflect on your own strengths and areas for development, and you can see and contribute to the whole picture. You dare to make the decisions required in consultation with your colleagues and manager.
