About the Workplace

Are you ready for a major challenge?

The Swedish Police Authority is Sweden's largest agency with approximately 40,700 employees nationwide. Here, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the Police's mission – to increase safety and reduce crime in society.

Police District Gothenburg (PO Storgöteborg)

The Gothenburg Police District is home to nearly one million inhabitants. Our geographical area spans seven municipalities. The Gothenburg Police District is divided into five local police districts: Gothenburg City, Kungälv/Ale, Gothenburg Hisingen, Gothenburg Northeast, and Gothenburg South. At the district level, personnel intake, support and investigative operations, as well as the district office, are also organized.

We are currently seeking two Investigating Officers (Senior Investigators) for Serious Crime, and one Investigating Officer for Crimes in Close Relationships.

Serious Crime

The mission of the Serious Crime Section is to complement and support local police districts and police districts in the joint work against serious crime. The section conducts investigative work for both police-led and prosecutor-led criminal investigations. Cases often involve secret coercive measures and surveillance. They are generally complex and usually have a long investigation period. The section also includes the group for deaths and disappearances.

Crimes in Close Relationships (BiNR)

The Crimes in Close Relationships section handles virtually all relationship-related crime, as well as sexual crimes even outside of relationships, within the Gothenburg Police District. This includes responsibility for the most serious offenses such as murder, serious violation of a woman's peace, serious assault, and rape.

Job Responsibilities

As an Investigating Officer, you will, together with the other Investigating Officers in the section, be responsible for initially handling incoming investigations, presenting cases to prosecutors, and acting as the lead investigator in certain serious crime cases. In this role, you will lead investigators and collaborate closely with the Group Manager. You are expected to work towards the organization's goals and be proactive in developing the section's working methods in accordance with the Police's governance model.

In the role of Investigating Officer for Serious Crime or BiNR, you will be responsible for incoming cases and ongoing investigations. You will coordinate and create a holistic overview of the case flow.

It is important that you have a strong understanding of how an investigation is conducted and have good insight into successful methods and priorities within the criminal investigation process, for example, the use of secret coercive measures in an investigation.

You will make decisions within or outside of investigations and must be able to give clear directives to employees to drive the investigations forward. In prosecutor-led cases, you will serve as the link between the prosecutor and the investigative organization.

Together with the Group Manager, you will motivate, support, and coach the employees in the group. Acting as an Investigating Officer and Lead Investigator also means having responsibility as a line manager. You ensure that operations are conducted in accordance with the Swedish Police Authority's intentions and guidelines.

For Serious Crime, you will also be part of the district's readiness for serious crimes, participating in either weekend duty or on-call readiness.

For BiNR, we are looking for you who want to contribute to investigating crimes involving particularly vulnerable victims. This includes investigations into crimes in close relationships, including child cases, sexual crimes, and honor-related violence and oppression. You will also be part of either weekend duty or on-call readiness for BiNR.

Qualifications

  • Police degree or other education relevant to the job duties.
  • Completed and approved Police Investigating Officer Basic Training (FU-grund) or equivalent education.
  • At least 6 months of recent experience as an Investigating Officer.
  • Good knowledge of Swedish.
  • Swedish Category B driver's license.

Meritorious:

  • At least 6 months of experience investigating serious crimes.
  • Completed and approved Investigating Officer Advanced Training (FU).
  • Experience working with Secret Coercive Measures (HTM).
  • Experience in investigative leadership.
  • Experience from managerial roles, continuous for at least 6 months.

Personal Qualities

As an Investigating Officer, you have the ability to see the big picture. We are looking for someone who is solution-focused, sees opportunities in change, and is skilled at creating structure and planning and organizing your work effectively.

Among your strengths are being driven with good communication skills and the ability to see how everyone in the group contributes to the whole of the Police Authority's mission. Collaboration within and outside the agency is a large part of the work and requires good teamwork skills. You must be able to lead staff in an engaging, clear, and pedagogical manner while being decisive and confident in making decisions.

We will place great emphasis on personal qualities.

Please see the Police's website for complete information about the position and its conditions.
