Are you a flexible nurse who enjoys variety, a fast-paced work environment, and teamwork? Welcome to the Infectious Diseases Clinic at Vrinnevisjukhuset!

"I chose to start on the infectious diseases ward immediately after my nursing degree because I felt it was important to get accustomed to a variety of patients/diseases/conditions as well as medical technology. I have chosen to stay because I always have fun at work and learn new things every day. Of course, it can be stressful and fast-paced, but the advantage of the infectious diseases ward is that all colleagues are incredibly helpful. I have never felt that any question was too silly, or felt like a burden for asking for help. Everyone is incredibly helpful and very caring towards each other."

Elin, Nurse, 4 years at the clinic

Job Description

As a nurse on Ward 20, you are the team leader for the team working around the patient. The team, besides the nurse, consists of other professions such as; nursing assistants, doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and social workers. Other support functions available are care coordinators and coordinators. On weekdays, our most experienced nurses are also available in a supporting function to assist the care team with complex questions and advanced patient cases.

As a nurse, you are responsible for advanced nursing care, medication, medical technology procedures, and creating structure for daily planning, including ward rounds. The daily life on Ward 20 is very varied with a wide range of both diagnoses and patient demographics. The work pace also varies. These variations in work mean that as a nurse, you must be flexible and able to adapt to the situations you face. This allows you to gain experience and breadth early on. You also need to stay updated on the latest findings and treatments in infectious disease care, which means that as a person, you are curious and always have a desire to learn and develop. The unique competence of the Infectious Diseases Clinic includes caring for diseases that require isolation and the application of special hygiene routines to prevent infection among/between patients and healthcare staff.

"Over the years, a good atmosphere at the workplace with colleagues who care about each other. Varied patients and high tempo, where you always learn something new. There is always some new epidemic that you need to familiarize yourself with."

Björn, Nurse, 38 years at the clinic

"As a newly graduated nurse, I think Ward 20 was the perfect place to start. I have learned a lot about infectious diseases, multimorbidity, medication, and medical technology. I have also learned to prioritize my work in a sometimes high-tempo environment, which has been important for me as a newcomer to the profession. Fortunately, I have learned all this in a positive and supportive environment with wonderful and helpful colleagues."

Tyra, Nurse, 6 months at the clinic

The Team

The Infectious Diseases Clinic is a county-wide clinic with approximately 160 employees. On Ward 20, we have a work group with both experienced and relatively new employees. Here, it is important that we take responsibility for the work together and that we are each other's work environment. As an employee at the Infectious Diseases Clinic, you are included in the community and become a natural part of the team. We believe we have an environment where everyone is constantly learning new things and that it is very important to have a learning and open climate where you always dare to ask questions. We have a clear structure for continuous development and information dissemination in the form of internal and external lectures, weekly ward meetings, weekly newsletters, as well as through collaboration with the infectious diseases department at the University Hospital.

"The reason I work in infectious diseases is the colleagues – we are a great group! And here we help each other – no question is a stupid question."

Kristina, Nurse, 8 years at the clinic
