Description

UmArts and the School of Architecture at Umeå University are seeking 1–2 research assistants interested in supporting UmArts' development of research projects as well as marketing and communication work. Our goal is to create a dynamic, interdisciplinary team, so students from the entire arts campus, the Department of Culture and Media Studies, and Museum Studies are encouraged to apply. The positions are for 20% of full-time employment, starting from September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026. The application deadline is July 6, 2026.

Responsibilities

As a research assistant in research production and communication, you will collaborate with UmArts' leadership and research coordinators on various tasks related to the development of research projects, seminars, and events, as well as marketing and communication. This may include working with researchers to install and communicate their projects, working with the UmArts team to communicate events, and overseeing exhibitions open to the public, ordering catering, and booking travel. Qualifications

To be eligible for employment as a research assistant, you must be a student admitted to undergraduate or advanced level studies at a university or university college.

Applicants for the position of research assistant should:

  • be a student at the School of Architecture, School of Design, School of Fine Arts, Department of Culture and Media Studies, or be studying Museology
  • have an interest in developing your knowledge and skills in the development of artistic research projects, as well as communication and marketing
  • have a good understanding of social media
  • have experience writing about art, architecture, and design
  • be able to take initiative and work independently

Previous experience working with events, design, and/or implementation of temporary exhibition structures and environments is an advantage. Experience working with public events and/or within an academic context is also an advantage.

Conditions

As a research assistant, you will be employed by Umeå University. The position is for 20% of full-time employment during the autumn term of 2026. The start date is September 1, 2026, or as agreed.
