Job Responsibilities

Ung Hisingen is now looking for a Youth Counselor to join our team working with children and young people at risk.

The unit is organizationally placed within the Department of Children and Youth Resources at the Hisingen Social Services Administration. In addition to Youth Counselors, the unit includes family counselors, field social workers, staff with municipal activity responsibility, and method supervisors.

The common main task of the unit is to reduce negative development regarding crime, mental ill-health, and substance abuse among young people aged 10-25 in Hisingen.

Youth Counselors work with needs-assessed and treatment interventions. The area of responsibility covers all of Hisingen. As a Youth Counselor, you work to see the whole picture regarding the young person and generally work from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) approach. When necessary, you work based on manual-based methods such as rePULSE and 'Crime as a Lifestyle'.

The role involves being active in various contexts of young people's lives and working to strengthen the young person and their network. As a Youth Counselor, you also maintain ongoing contact with guardians.

You work in collaboration with various authorities and actors to effectively identify young people at risk of exclusion, crime, and other norm-breaking behaviors. One of the goals is for young people to experience reduced exclusion and be motivated to change risky behaviors.

As an employee, you are expected to participate in operational meetings, ongoing development work, and training. Daily tasks include follow-up, reporting, and documentation.

Qualifications

You must have a degree in Social Work or another education that the employer deems equivalent.

It is a requirement that you have experience working with young people and knowledge of working with guardians and treatment work. It is an advantage if you have knowledge of upbringing conditions in socio-economically disadvantaged areas.

In the role of Youth Counselor, you need to be curious, exploratory, and salutogenic in your approach. You should be flexible, responsible, and accessible, with a focus on the young person and their needs. You proceed from the principle of equal value for all and create a good atmosphere in the meeting. You take responsibility for your and the shared tasks, with the best interests of the operation and the young person in focus. You have a good ability to listen, build a working alliance with young people and their networks, and collaborate with internal and external partners and colleagues. By showing interest and creating understanding for others, you contribute to a respectful work climate.

You have good knowledge of documentation and possess a good ability to structure your tasks and manage your time.

Since the work is based on the young people's conditions, some working hours are scheduled for evenings. A driver's license (Category B) and driving experience are desirable.

Interviews will be held during week 27.

For your interview, you must bring a passport/national ID and, if applicable, proof of residence permit if you hold citizenship outside the EU/EEA. This is required for us as employers to verify your identity and ensure you have the right to work in Sweden.
