Your workplace

The Laboratory Medicine Värmland department covers four specialties: clinical chemistry, clinical microbiology, clinical pathology, and transfusion medicine. The department's mission is to offer high-quality service including sample collection, blood services, preparation and analysis of samples, as well as producing quality-assured analysis results, diagnoses, and diagnostic support.

Transfusion Medicine Karlstad has approximately 35 employees and is physically divided into two locations: GeBlod at Karolinen and the Blood Center at the Central Hospital.

Your responsibilities

At GeBlod, we receive blood, plasma, and platelet donors. Here, we also prepare blood components and platelets for patients, as well as produce plasma for pharmaceuticals. The work is primarily during daytime hours, with some evening shifts recurring weekly. The work group consists of both nurses and biomedical laboratory scientists.

At the Blood Center at the Central Hospital, we operate 24/7, and only biomedical laboratory scientists work there. Some employees rotate between GeBlod and the Blood Center at the Central Hospital.

Tests performed at the Central Hospital in Karlstad include blood typing, antibody screening, and pre-testing of blood components prior to planned and emergency transfusions. Reservation and dispensing of blood components and tissues to patients are performed, as well as advanced blood group serological investigations.

Your skills and competencies

We are looking for you who are a licensed biomedical laboratory scientist with courses in laboratory medicine. Experience in independent work within transfusion medicine is an advantage.

Personal qualities such as teamwork, focus on quality, and flexibility are highly valued. You are organized and always have a good attitude towards customers and colleagues. You need to have good knowledge of Swedish in both speech and writing.
