About the assignment

Are you looking for a meaningful and responsible leadership role within the Swedish civil service? We are now seeking an experienced interim unit manager for a central government authority in Stockholm.

The unit is responsible for matters concerning state grants for the management of valuable cultural environments and non-profit organizations within the cultural heritage field, as well as the follow-up and evaluation of these. The unit is also responsible for overseeing the application of the Cultural Environment Act and for developing and monitoring the commissioned archaeology system. Currently, the unit is also driving an important project to develop the conditions for proactive and systematic work with ancient monuments in relation to landscape interventions.

The assignment is at 100 % with a start at the end of August or during September (desired start date 2026-08-17). The assignment is ongoing until permanent recruitment is completed and is expected to last 6–12 months.

The role and responsibilities

As interim unit manager, you will lead the unit's nine employees (two more are currently being recruited), consisting of specialists, investigators, and case handlers. All are based in Stockholm but have the possibility of remote work up to 50 %.

The unit has had various acting solutions over the past two years and is currently dealing with some workplace environment challenges. Your focus will therefore be on creating stability, security, and calm.

Your main tasks include:

  • Leading, motivating, and developing experts and specialists in their daily work.
  • Full personnel, operational, and budgetary responsibility for the unit.
  • Participating in the department's management group and contributing to the authority's overall goals.
  • Driving change and development work with a focus on a good work environment.

Qualifications

To succeed in the role as interim manager, you need:

  • Experience: Several years of experience as a manager with documented personnel, operational, and budgetary responsibility.
  • Background: Solid experience from the Swedish civil service, preferably within areas such as grant funding, culture, or nature.
  • Leadership: Practical experience in change management and experience leading experts and handling different perspectives and opinions regarding the assignment.
  • Education: An academic degree in law, behavioral science, social science, or economics. It is an advantage if combined with experience in the cultural heritage field.
  • Personal qualities: You are communicative, clear, and confident in your leadership. You have the ability to maintain direction, motivate employees, and act constructively even in situations where wills and opinions differ.

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Practical experience with legislation regarding cultural environment protection and other legal frameworks regulating societal development.
