Do you want to shape the future of hardware development in the automotive industry? At Valora Bemanning, we are currently looking for a structured and driven Hardware Functional Safety Engineer to join an exciting and innovative specialist company in Sweden's automotive hub on the west coast.

Here you will have a key role where you combine functional safety and quality assurance with driving the transformation towards modern, code-centric workflows.

About the role

As a Hardware Functional Safety Engineer, you are responsible for ensuring that hardware development is safe, compliant, and well-structured throughout the entire lifecycle. You work at the intersection of hardware technology, quality, and process management.

A major and exciting part of the assignment involves modernizing how safety and development artifacts are created and managed in close collaboration with internal teams and Tier 1 suppliers. You will enable Git-based traceability and support the client's philosophy of Everything as Code.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Functional Safety & Compliance: Ensure and drive processes for hardware safety in accordance with current regulations. Own and maintain safety requirements and artifacts, lead reviews, and act as the primary contact during audits and safety assessments.
  • Process Transformation: Drive hardware development towards Git-based, version-controlled working methods. Implement structured artifact management and collaborate with Tier 1 suppliers to deliver documentation in machine-readable formats (e.g., YAML, JSON, or Markdown).
  • Continuous Improvement: Design processes that enable automation and CI/CD integration for hardware artifacts, and support hardware teams with guidance on compliance and modern tools.

Who are you?

We are looking for you who are a structured, proactive, and quality-conscious engineer. You thrive on creating clarity, driving processes forward, and taking significant ownership in complex development environments.

We believe you have:

  • A university degree or Master of Science in Engineering in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a corresponding field.
  • Extensive experience with hardware development processes within the automotive industry.
  • Strong knowledge of functional safety standards, with a specific focus on ISO 26262 for hardware.
  • Experience working with safety documentation, reviews, and compliance.
  • Excellent ability to collaborate cross-functionally and with external partners.
  • A structured work methodology and a strong drive for follow-up.

What the client offers:

Our client was founded by experienced leaders from the automotive and technology sectors with the goal of accelerating innovation through world-class engineering. They combine the agility and speed of a startup with long-term stability and strong industrial backing.

With them, you get an influential role in a culture that values responsibility, structure, and continuous improvement – where your work directly impacts the safety of tomorrow's vehicles.
