Our Operations

At Surgical Ward 70E, we care for patients belonging to the Vascular Surgery Section and the Acute Surgery Section within the Department of Surgery and Urology at Akademiska Sjukhuset.

The Vascular Surgery Section is an internationally leading unit within vascular surgical treatment and research. Our vascular patients undergo highly specialized elective and acute surgery involving both open surgery and endovascular treatment. The vascular surgical procedures include treatment of all the body's vascular systems except the heart and brain. The most common procedures are the treatment of peripheral arterial disease, aortic disease, and carotid disease.

The Acute Surgery Section (KAVA) cares for patients with acute conditions requiring surgical treatment. The most common diagnoses are cholecystitis, pancreatitis, appendicitis, ileus, and gastrointestinal bleeding, as well as traumas of varying degrees such as falls and bicycle accidents, knife and gunshot wounds, etc. Patients are admitted via the emergency department or as direct admissions from other hospitals.

Our inpatient ward is located in newly renovated premises adapted for modern care and planned with the patient in focus. We appreciate an open and learning climate, and our goal is to offer stimulating work where you, as a nurse, have the opportunity to develop professionally by working with our experienced and engaged colleagues and other professions in the team. We work with clear structures and person-centered approaches to create security for everyone in daily work. Competence development is part of the operations, and various training courses are offered continuously throughout the terms.

We currently have a stable staff group where you will have colleagues who have worked between 1 year to over 20 years within our specialties. Joining a stable staff group gives you, as a new member of the ward, the opportunity to develop at your own pace.

Your Role

As a discharge nurse at the ward, your task is to plan for the patient's discharge or return to their home hospital together with doctors, nurses, and nursing assistants. You are responsible for meeting the patient's information needs at discharge and ensuring the patient feels secure before going home. Some patients also need municipal services after discharge, and you plan and are responsible for this in consultation with the patient and the care team. You will also act as a contact person between the ward and the hospitals in the country with which we collaborate, to plan the transfer of patients to their home hospitals.

You combine the role of discharge nurse with clinical work on the care ward. Working as a nurse on the ward gives you broad competence and good knowledge within vascular surgical nursing and medical technology. You work in a team around the patient and are the team leader in the care team with varied and developing tasks, such as administering medication, infusions, injections, and handling pain pumps, as well as more administrative tasks such as documentation and identifying care needs and risk areas.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a registered nurse with at least two years of experience in surgical care and an interest in coordination and discharge planning. It is meritorious if you have previous experience working with Cosmic LINK and the discharge process. The role of discharge responsible nurse is divided into 50% work as a discharge nurse combined with 50% clinical work on the ward. The working hours for the discharge role are scheduled during daytime, and during clinical hours, there are weekend shifts, evenings, and nights.
