Flens Municipality is now hiring a GIS Engineer
We are looking for you who want to contribute to the municipality's work on societal development with a focus on map services and geodata. We are a municipality with great potential, eager to see your skills and commitment shine on the continued path towards sustainable development. We are looking for someone who appreciates the close-knit nature of a small municipality; here you have excellent opportunities to influence both small and large issues. You will be close to your colleagues and gain a good overview of all parts of the municipality.
At Flens Municipality, you will find meaningful work that makes a real difference. Additionally, there are excellent commuting opportunities, a stimulating work environment, and the possibility to work remotely for part of the time.
Personal qualities
You are communicative, driven, and have a good ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally. The ability to work independently and make your own decisions is a prerequisite for succeeding in this role. Since the geodata field is evolving rapidly, we also value flexibility, curiosity, and a willingness to learn new things as the market and technology change.
Support is provided by engaged managers and many knowledgeable colleagues. Your colleagues are looking for a team player who sees value creation from everyone's expertise, a person who contributes to a positive work environment, and who is happy to help others when needed. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability in this recruitment.
Responsibilities
In the role of GIS Engineer, you will have an independent and broad assignment with the mandate to shape the municipality's future geodata operations. You will work in a politically governed organization, closely collaborating with internal colleagues such as building permit handlers, environmental inspectors, planning architects, technical operations staff, as well as cooperating with external parties. Since we are strategically moving towards external cloud and SaaS solutions to relieve the role of local server and platform management, valuable time is freed up for you to focus on development, data quality, and business value.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Manage and develop the municipality's GIS and geodata platform to meet the organization's current and future needs.
- Drive and participate in the implementation of new features and systems.
- Lead, plan, and follow up on projects to ensure that regulatory requirements, economics, and quality standards are met.
- Be responsible for information management and statutory regulatory requirements regarding Buildings, Apartments, and Addresses (BAL).
- Act as a contact person and procurement support for our external surveying and mapping consultants.
- Provide GIS support, assistance, and basic training to internal and external actors to increase the use of geodata in the municipality's core processes.
- Drive and develop an internal GIS user forum to capture needs and share tips between the municipality's various operations and companies.
- Monitor and evaluate various agreements, quality requirements, and integrations related to the municipality's geodata operations.
Your qualifications
We are looking for someone who is self-reliant, has good collaboration skills, and can see the big picture. As you will become our primary internal expert in the field, you need to have the senior experience required to make independent decisions and set requirements for external parties.
Requirements for the position:
- Relevant academic education (e.g., Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent, minimum three years/180 ECTS) with a focus on GIS/GIT, cartography and surveying technology, urban planning, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer.
- Several years of documented experience working as a GIS Engineer, GIS Coordinator, or in a similar independent role.
- Good experience with GIS software for both desktop and web.
- Experience in the role of a public procurer and requirement setting according to LOU (Public Procurement Act).
- Good knowledge of and experience with maintenance and processes regarding BAL (Building, Address, Apartment).
- Ability to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
It is meritorious if you have:
- Knowledge of or experience with our current system environments GEOSECMA and Gaida.
- Experience in developing and making web maps and simple digital map services available to users.
- Experience working in a politically governed organization.
Scope/duration
Full-time/the position is a permanent employment.
