Interim Unit Manager for Government Agency in Stockholm

We are currently recruiting an Interim Unit Manager for our client, a government agency located in Stockholm.

  • Scope: Full-time (100%)
  • Start: August/September
  • Duration: 6–12 months

Opportunity for 50% remote work.

About the Role

As part of an ongoing recruitment process, the agency is seeking an Interim Unit Manager.

The Cultural Heritage Department is responsible for the agency's work within the cultural heritage sector, working towards a sustainable society where a diversity of cultural environments can be preserved, used, and developed. We lead and support cultural heritage work across the country and advocate for cultural heritage interests to be integrated into urban planning and construction. We are also responsible for managing and making digital cultural-historical information about ancient monuments and built heritage accessible.

Main Responsibilities

The Unit for Grants and Protection of Cultural Environments handles cases regarding state grants for the management of valuable cultural environments and non-profit organizations within the cultural heritage sector, as well as the follow-up and evaluation of these grants. The unit is also responsible for overseeing the application of the Cultural Heritage Act. Additionally, the unit has specific responsibility for the development and follow-up of the commissioned archaeology system and is currently driving an important project to improve the conditions for proactive and systematic work with ancient monuments in relation to landscape interventions.

Other Information

The team consists of nine employees, with two additional positions currently being recruited.

The unit has had various acting leadership solutions over the past two years and is dealing with certain workplace environment challenges.

Who Are You?

To be considered for this assignment, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Several years of experience as a manager with responsibility for personnel, operations, and budget.
  • Extensive experience from the Swedish Civil Service, preferably in areas such as grant administration, culture, and nature.
  • Practical experience in change management.
  • An academic degree in law, behavioral science, social science, or economics. Preferably combined with experience in the cultural heritage sector.
  • Experience leading experts and the ability to handle different perspectives and opinions regarding the assignment.
  • Strong communication skills and clear leadership; ability to maintain direction, motivate employees, and remain calm and constructive even when opinions differ.
  • Practical experience with cultural heritage legislation and other regulations governing urban planning and construction is preferred.
