Nurse for Ear, Nose, and Throat Department

We are Akademiska sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Here, something is always happening – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both challenging trials and fantastic events, within a strong community of colleagues. We welcome your application!

Our Operations

The Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) department diagnoses and treats diseases and conditions affecting the ears, nose, sinuses, oral cavity, upper airways, as well as hearing and balance. We are primarily a surgical ward with both planned and emergency operations. The surgery can range from simpler procedures to more extensive tumor surgery in the head and neck area. We also have emergency operations in the form of an ENT emergency clinic, which is located on the ward during evenings, nights, and weekends and is staffed by personnel from the department. At the emergency clinic, we receive patients with, among other things, infections in the ear, nose, and throat area, nosebleeds, dizziness, and severe airway obstructions.

The ward has 12 care beds, all single rooms. Patients are divided into care teams staffed by nursing assistants and nurses. We care for both children and adults, and the length of stay varies from less than a day to several weeks.

Your Role

The nursing needs of our patients are very varied, and the work is based on a strong focus on highly specialized nursing care. As an employee on the ward, you are expected to contribute your professional competence and commitment to create safety, continuity, and high trust in the patient encounter.

Basic nursing care includes pre- and postoperative care. Highly specialized nursing care includes, among other things, assessment and management of airway problems, bleeding from the nose and pharynx, and care and handling of tracheostomized patients. The ward is particularly focused on diseases of the upper airways, with a pronounced focus on tracheostomy care. For those who lack previous experience in this area, we offer a structured and operation-adapted education in tracheostomy care as part of the introduction.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a trained nurse, preferably with a few years of experience. Experience working with ear, nose, and throat issues is an advantage. As a person, you are stable, solution-oriented, secure, and empathetic. You are responsible, always keep the patient in focus, and appreciate teamwork.

What We Offer

  • An stimulating job in a highly specialized care environment
  • Opportunities for continuous competence development and education
  • A thorough and individually adapted introduction
  • A multiprofessional team with the patient at the center

The position is a permanent employment with a start date as agreed. We are looking for nurses who can work night shifts.
