Do you want to drive the transformation of Sweden's digital cultural heritage and develop modern, innovative technical solutions?

You now have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the National Library of Sweden (KB). For some time now, an extensive effort has been underway to develop KB's organization to meet the expectations of research and the world around us today and in the future. To achieve this, we need to strengthen our development teams with a Frontend Developer.

The National Library of Sweden has a unique digital collection that offers fantastic opportunities for technical development and innovation, including by utilizing the AI capabilities that KB itself develops through KB Lab. Here, you will have the opportunity to work on socially important technical solutions for Sweden's National Library, as well as for the preservation and provision of Sweden's cultural heritage. Become part of the National Library of Sweden's exciting technical development journey!

Responsibilities

As a Frontend Developer at the National Library of Sweden, you will contribute to both new development projects and the maintenance and management of existing services. As a Frontend Developer, you will work partly in product development teams together with backend developers and UX designers, and partly in close collaboration with other frontend developers in the department. You will be involved in the entire development chain from analysis, design, and implementation to testing and maintenance, and you will work with various services and products at KB. We work in agile teams with a strong focus on personal responsibility and a desire to constantly improve our operations and service to internal and external users.

Examples of services developed by KB include the search service KB Digitalt (digitalt.kb.se), Libris Search, Sweden's national library catalog (libris.kb.se), and the very popular Swedish Newspapers (tidningar.kb.se).

What KB's products and services have in common is that they contain very large amounts of data, which are processed by machines to the greatest extent possible. Some data is linked together through linked data. KB has its own AI lab that develops language models and other AI capabilities to help users find their way in the extensive collections.

The Team

At KB, there are a total of approximately 25 developers distributed across six teams, all working towards their own domains and areas of operations. As a Frontend Developer, you work with various services in close collaboration with other developers, business specialists, UX/design, and product managers. Each team has a backlog from which the team's priorities and daily work are derived. We create an overarching quarterly plan, which the team then breaks down into three-week sprints. We regularly allocate time for hackathons or other lab activities.

As a developer at KB, you have great opportunities to influence which technology and frameworks we use now and in the future. We value collaboration highly, and even though we focus on different areas, we are helpful when needed and make time for each other.

Qualifications and Personal Attributes

We are looking for someone who is responsible, enjoys working with others and solving problems in a group, while also being able to drive own initiatives and work independently. As a developer at KB, you are expected to collaborate with others both within and outside your team. You learn easily and contribute to a learning work environment where we jointly develop and test new ways of solving tasks. We believe you are fascinated by data and enjoy working with large datasets.

To succeed in the role, you need:

  • Relevant academic education or vocational higher education (YH) in IT (at least two years) or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways
  • At least 2 years of work experience in system development with a focus on frontend
  • Knowledge and experience of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and modern web standards
  • Experience with a JavaScript framework, preferably SvelteKit or Vue
  • Very good communication skills in both spoken and written Swedish and English

Meritorious experience includes:

  • Experience working with REST APIs
  • Experience with TypeScript
  • Experience with Tailwind or other modern CSS libraries or build tools
  • Experience with accessibility adaptation according to the Act on Accessibility to Digital Public Service (DOS)
  • Experience with CI/CD and automated testing
  • Experience with version control (Git)
  • Experience working together with others in agile teams

Personal attributes are given great weight.
