Our Operations

The Department of Geriatrics, Rehabilitation, and Pain Center provides care ranging from acute treatment to rehabilitation and discharge planning for patients over the age of 65. You will receive patients directly from the emergency department and by referral from other wards. You will care for individuals with a wide variety of health conditions. The geriatric department in Uppsala consists of three inpatient wards with different focuses: medicine, orthopedics, and neurological care.

The foundation of geriatric work is team-based, patient-centered care. The team consists of nursing assistants and nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and, as needed, pharmacists, social workers, dietitians, and speech therapists.

Your Role

As a nursing assistant, you work closely with the patient and are responsible for parts of the nursing care. You observe, assess, perform, and evaluate nursing care. In addition to close nursing care, your duties include taking venous blood samples, inserting urinary catheters (KAD), catheter care, wound dressing changes, staple removal, monitoring vital signs, ECG, bladder scans, taking various cultures, and rehabilitation. A key part of the role is helping the patient achieve as much independence as possible. As a nursing assistant, you work closely with the patient, and listening and offering comfort are part of the daily work. On the ward, we have two different nursing assistant roles with different focuses. One role focuses more on planning, maintaining, and evaluating the patient's nursing care together with the team, while the other role is more operational.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a trained nursing assistant (a copy of your diploma must be attached to the application). Or who are currently studying the nursing program or the medical program. An absolute requirement is that you enjoy working with elderly people, and previous experience in healthcare is highly valued.

Your Competence

The variety in the work means that you must be flexible, responsible, and able to adapt to acute situations, as well as versatile enough to step in where needed. Since the work is often physically demanding, good physical fitness is a requirement. You enjoy working with older people and have a good, thoughtful approach to interaction. Great importance is placed on your ability to collaborate, as teamwork is central to providing safe patient care for our patients. You want to help others become their best selves! You learn new systems easily and work structured with documentation and information management. You handle the Swedish language, both spoken and written, and can communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and colleagues, as well as document according to current routines. Competence to perform tasks delegated by different professions in the care team. You have a structured way of working, where you plan, prioritize, and follow up on tasks efficiently, even at a high pace and under changing conditions.
