Stockholm – our capital city of millions of dreams, expectations, and ambitions. We work for everyone who lives here today and in the future. Now we are looking for you who want to think big, new, and different with us – for the people of Stockholm.
The City Executive Office is the administration for the City Executive Board. We are responsible for steering, follow-up, and development of the city's operations based on the vision and budget decided by the City Council. We have just over 350 employees who primarily work with strategic issues that have great significance for the city's operations.
We are now looking for you who want to become our new Deputy City Attorney/Unit Manager for the General Legal Unit.
Are you a leader who thrives in a dynamic environment with strategic and legally complex issues? Here you have the opportunity to make a real difference together with an experienced and competent team.
Welcome to us
Stockholm City's Legal Department is located within the City Executive Office. Our clients are the city's committees, administrations, companies, and foundations. The department's task is to provide clients with qualified legal expertise and service, as well as to provide service to the City Council and the City Executive Board.
We have approximately 60 employees in the department, of which about 35 are lawyers. The department is divided into four units – the General Legal Unit, the Social and School Law Unit, the Support and Development Unit, and the Unit for the City Council and City Executive Board's Secretariat – KF/KS Secretariat.
The areas of work on the General Legal Unit are primarily property law, contract law, municipal law, public access and confidentiality, procurement, tort law, environmental law, and construction law. On the unit, 19 competent and independent lawyers work in the roles of city attorneys, assistant city attorneys, tax lawyers, and data protection lawyers.
The employees' tasks consist of being advisors to the city's administrations and companies, representing the city as a representative in various disputes and court hearings, providing opinions on legal issues, drafting, reviewing, and interpreting contracts, assisting in negotiations, and conducting training.
We offer you
- Great opportunities to contribute to societal benefit
- Clear areas of responsibility and good development opportunities
- A large network within Stockholm City with many collaboration areas
- A centrally located workplace at City Hall
- Flexible working hours, fitness time, and fitness allowance, with training facilities in close proximity to the workplace.
Your role as Deputy City Attorney and Manager of the General Legal Unit
As a manager, you have responsibility for operations, personnel, and work environment. You lead and distribute the work within the unit and support employees in their assignments. You are also responsible for developing and following up on the unit's goals and methods. Often, you will be involved in strategic legal issues at the city-wide level together with the City Attorney.
You are part of the Legal Department's management group and report to the Department Head and City Attorney.
Your competence and experience
You who apply have:
- A Master of Laws degree and notarial qualifications
- Several years of experience working as a manager or leading a work group, preferably with personnel responsibility in municipal or other public operations
- Many years of experience in qualified legal work and good knowledge of municipal law as well as public access and confidentiality
- Experience collaborating with different operations both internally and externally

It is meritorious if you have:
- Knowledge in one or more of the areas of property law, contract law, procurement, tort law, and construction law

- Driven development projects or similar.
To succeed in the role, you need to be a secure, stable, and supportive leader. You see the whole picture of the operations and can identify needs and allocate resources efficiently based on that. Since the role of manager and Deputy City Attorney involves many contact surfaces, it is important that you are a communicative person who finds it easy to build good relationships. It is also important that you have the ability to create a trusting work climate characterized by responsiveness. You are clear and communicate conditions, frameworks, requirements, expectations, and goals in a pedagogical and professional manner.
