Department of Infectious Diseases
We are Akademiska Sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic events, within a strong community of colleagues. We welcome your application!
Our Operations
At the Emergency Department for Infectious Diseases, we admit adult patients with infections requiring specialist care. This can involve acute conditions, as well as complicated infections where investigation and sometimes long-term treatment may be necessary. Our emergency department is open daily from 07:30 to 21:30.
The breadth and variety of the patients we care for make the work interesting and rewarding. Patients can seek care directly through our emergency intake, but they can also be referred here or arrive via ambulance. We examine, investigate, and treat our patients during their visit. The pace of work is often fast, and patient flow can sometimes be intense, making working days full and content-rich. The knowledge you gain here is valuable and useful. Having experience in infectious disease care is beneficial in most nursing specialties and is an excellent asset for those dreaming of working internationally.
Modern treatment methods and new technology create opportunities to improve care for our patients. Therefore, we are looking for you who have a genuine interest in infectious disease care and want to help develop our operations to meet an exciting future. Our goal is to provide world-class care for our patients together!
Your Role
As a nurse at the Emergency Department for Infectious Diseases, you work in a team together with doctors, nurses, and assistant nurses. It is independent work where your ability to make clinical assessments is important, but there is always someone to ask for advice. The nurse's task is to manage the patient flow and logistics around the patient, so that acute care becomes efficient and safe for the patient. This involves initial triage, sampling, and prioritization of patients.
The work involves significant patient contact and requires a developed understanding of the patient's care needs. You become the patient's source of security and support in a situation that can be experienced as demanding for both the sick person and their relatives.
Your Qualifications
You are a licensed nurse with a special interest in emergency and infectious disease care, or alternatively a specialist nurse in infectious disease care. We would like you to have a few years of experience in the profession, but we have good experience hiring even newly graduated nurses. It is an advantage if you have previous experience working in an emergency department or previous experience in infectious disease care. Here, you will develop at your own pace, and we offer continuous education and competence development.
Your Competencies
You thrive working in an acute flow, with constantly new patient contacts. You have the ability to remain calm in acute situations and can prioritize your tasks when workload is high. You are used to working independently but enjoy being part of a team. We place great emphasis on personal qualities and the desire to develop through continuous learning. There are many areas to deepen your knowledge in, and we encourage all initiatives for increased knowledge and improvement projects.
What We Offer
In line with the hospital's investment in sustainable staffing, we have a long-term plan for how we will recruit and retain our nurses to build a stable and competent work group. You will notice this through our commitment to ensuring you and your colleagues thrive, develop, and feel joy in your work. Here, you will work together with experienced colleagues, several of whom are specialist-trained. During your first year as a newly hired nurse, you will be guided into your new role by an experienced colleague trained in clinical supervision. We apply healthy working hours and work actively with scheduling to adapt employees' working hours to individual wishes and needs as much as possible. The position includes evening and weekend work. We hire continuously, so do not hesitate to submit your application.
