Welcome to Sundsvall Municipality!

Sundsvall Municipality is one of the largest employers in Northern Sweden, with around 8,000 employees and over 300 professions. Together, we fulfill one of society's most important missions – creating utility and value for residents, businesses, and future generations. Regardless of the department, we work towards the same goal: to be a great place to live, work, and thrive.

Sundsvall plays a central role in the green transition in northern Sweden. We are convinced that the right places for this transition are here. As a municipality, we are preparing to grow by, among other things, preparing land, creating new educational opportunities, marketing the municipality, and welcoming new residents from all over the world.

Your new workplace

Here, individuals who have been granted day activities according to the Social Services Act (SoL) or the Act on Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments (LSS) receive a secure and meaningful occupation. We work to ensure that every participant can grow, feel included, and live as independent a life as possible. The activity is located in the same building as IKEA, where we are a valued group performing simpler tasks. The tasks are adapted to the participants' interests and abilities; here, everyone contributes based on their own strengths. We share space with IKEA staff and other partners. We consist of two support assistants and a group of approximately 10 participants who together create a warm and inclusive daily routine.

How you contribute as a support assistant

The role involves motivating and supporting individuals with disabilities to increase self-esteem, structure in daily life, and social community. You provide support, care, and nursing, and assist participants in meaningful activities from a social and habilitation/rehabilitation perspective. The work includes documentation, implementation plans, follow-ups, deviation reporting, as well as planning and structuring daily work according to the activity's directives and routines.

When relevant, you also perform delegated health and medical care tasks and collaborate with the user's network, colleagues, and other partners. The role requires flexibility as solo work may occur and tasks may be redistributed based on the activity's needs.

You plan the activity together with a colleague. In addition, there are other tasks that contribute to the overall operation and complement the daily work:

  • Follow established work methods, common approaches, routines, and guidelines.
  • Participate in the development of work methods and approaches.
  • Actively contribute to developing a good and high-quality activity and provide ideas for changes and improvements.
  • Participate in competence development.
  • Hold areas of responsibility and assignments both within and outside the regular workplace, and participate in meetings, goal-setting, and planning days.
  • Be a sounding board and source of inspiration for colleagues.
  • Seek new knowledge and share it at the workplace.
  • Be a good ambassador for the activity.
  • Participate in the introduction of new staff.
  • Be responsible for supervising new employees and students according to unit routines.

Your skills and experience

To succeed in the role, we are looking for you who meet the following requirements and preferably have merit-enhancing experience that strengthens the assignment:

  • Health and Care Program or Nurse Aide education with specialization in disability/psychiatry, or the national vocational package for nurse aides (2021).
  • Child and Youth Program with a focus on social work or pedagogical work, or other education that the employer deems relevant.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with individuals with disabilities within autism/NPD and/or intellectual disability.
  • Experience and knowledge of cognitive support.
  • Ability to use a computer as a work tool without hindrance.
  • Good IT skills and experience working in IT systems related to healthcare and social services.
  • Very good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.
  • Category B driver's license.

We consider it meritorious if you have:

  • Experience with alternative and augmentative communication (AAC).
  • Low-affect handling techniques.
  • Motivational interviewing.
  • PFA (Pedagogical Approach).
  • Picture support, e.g., In Print.
  • Experience with documentation in journal systems, e.g., Lifecare.
  • Knowledge of In Print or similar picture support.

To thrive in the role, you need good physical fitness, as the work involves walking for extended periods during shifts. The work is scheduled on weekdays and during the day, and we strive for an even gender distribution in the work group. In daily life, it is important that you collaborate well with others, can shift focus when needs change, and work structured in both planning and documentation. You also need to be able to think creatively when situations require it, provide service-oriented handling, and communicate clearly and confidently with participants, colleagues, and our workplace partner.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability!
