Resident Physician in Anesthesia, Surgery and Intensive Care – Akademiska Sjukhuset

We are Akademiska Sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. With us, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic events, within a strong community of colleagues. We welcome your application!

Our Operations

The Department of Anesthesia, Surgery and Intensive Care (AnOpIVA) is a cohesive department for perioperative medicine and intensive care. Within AnOpIVA, 860 people work, of whom 90 are physicians with specialist competence in anesthesia and intensive care, and 24 resident physicians (ST-läkare) in anesthesia and intensive care. Here you will find six operating departments with a complete range of both broad and specialized expertise in anesthesia, as well as a department for advanced postoperative care. AnOpIVA runs its own intensive care unit, and our physicians staff, in addition to this, two intensive care units and an intermediate care unit, also featuring a mix of broad and specialized competence. Pediatric anesthesia and intensive care, and air transport intensive care, are also part of AnOpIVA. In collaboration with Uppsala University, we conduct active research with international impact.

Your Role

With our mix of breadth and depth in anesthesia and intensive care, we have unique prerequisites for offering training to become a specialist in anesthesia and intensive care within the same department. As a resident physician, you belong to a vital resident section that is a natural part of the clinic's staff. The section has its own manager and study director. You work under supervision at our various anesthesia and intensive care departments, and your tasks gradually increase in complexity and responsibility. There is always close support from experienced colleagues, both during daytime and on call. The resident service has regularly undergone SPUR inspections with good results.

Proximity to the university opens up opportunities for you to participate in research, teaching, and development. Even though the hospital is large, the distance between our different specialties is never far. Here you have the opportunity to develop through stimulating interactions with colleagues and patients, as well as through supervision and theoretical studies. We offer individually tailored development opportunities and together we create a challenging and developmental workplace where freedom under responsibility is a given.

Your Qualifications

You are a licensed physician (at the time of employment) with an interest in a continued career in anesthesia and intensive care. We welcome applicants both with and without previous experience in anesthesia and intensive care. Good basic medical knowledge, willingness to work, and very good communication and teamwork skills are prerequisites for success in the role. You also need to develop the ability to handle demanding and often acute situations under stress.

Your Competence

Naturally, you always put the patient first, and you have an interest in sharing your knowledge with your surroundings. If you are also humble and responsible, Akademiska Sjukhuset may be the right challenge for you. We place great emphasis on personal qualities and value clinical, academic, and pedagogical experience.

What We Offer

Three resident blocks with permanent employment. A six-month probationary period may apply. Full-time with the possibility of part-time by agreement. On-call duties and readiness are included. Start date by agreement.

With us, you receive benefits that make a difference; read about the benefits here (Region Uppsala Benefits (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/)).

Region Uppsala values the qualities that equal gender distribution and diversity bring to the operations and welcomes applicants of all genders and with different backgrounds, abilities, and life experiences.

Region Uppsala assigns all permanently employed personnel for wartime service based on the needs of the total defense. This entails no obligations for the individual employee in peacetime but is solely a planning measure.

Before a decision on employment, checks of suspicion and criminal records are conducted for all job seekers who, in the applied position, may come to work within psychiatric care, habilitation, care of children and youth, or compulsory care for substance abusers, areas covered by optional record extracts. This thus applies to all who will work in close proximity to patients, even if the tasks at present are not intended to primarily involve work with the aforementioned patient groups.

This recruitment is conducted entirely through Region Uppsala, and we decline phone calls from recruitment agencies and advertising sales representatives.
