Job Responsibilities
As a Museum Technician, you play a central role in the production of new exhibitions. During the planning phase, you provide advice within your areas of expertise, such as suggestions for material selection and structural solutions. You should be able to independently create drawings for this and estimate time and material requirements. During the implementation phase, you are expected to work both independently and in close collaboration with other roles such as designers and conservators. The work also includes handling art and museum objects.
You will also work on maintaining existing exhibitions and exhibition spaces.
As time permits, you are also expected to perform routine caretaker duties such as repairs, material handling, and other logistics related to the museum's daily operations.
Qualifications
We are looking for you with substantial experience in various aspects of exhibition construction so that you can quickly get up to speed with the work. To be considered for the position, you should meet the following requirements:
- Education equivalent to a 3-year upper secondary school with a focus relevant to exhibition production work
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written
- Experience with exhibition construction in museum contexts
- Experience with exhibition carpentry and decorative painting
- Experience communicating with and working closely with designers, scenographers, architects, or artists
- Experience independently driving a sub-project by communicating with other stakeholders, calculating material usage, estimating time, planning workflow, etc.
- Experience independently creating structural drawings for e.g., framing, display cases, props
- Valid driver's license (Category B)
It is an advantage if you also have:
- Experience with welding and ironwork
- Knowledge of audio and video in public environments
- Good understanding of work within public, cultural activities
- Experience with prop construction
- Other relevant craft skills

Malmö Museum is the largest museum in southern Sweden. Experience everything from Northern Europe's oldest preserved Renaissance castle to a real submarine, live frogs, and 3D science films. The museum tells stories in its exhibitions about history, nature, technology, and maritime history, among other things.
The technical team currently consists of four technicians and a technical manager, and is reinforced with external technicians as needed. We have expertise in everything from digital signage systems and 3D printing to ironwork and carpentry.
