The special education group "Arken" exists to strengthen the efforts of home schooling for students in need of special support. The group consists of educators who offer a well-adapted curriculum with a focus on individualized approaches. The work is based on a common pedagogical foundation and a solution-oriented perspective, where the approach and attitude towards students are of utmost importance. The group primarily includes students within the autism spectrum, as well as students with long-term problematic school absenteeism who require adjustments in the school environment.

For those new to the profession, Örnsköldsvik Municipality offers an induction program for new teachers, which means you will be assigned a mentor during your first year. Your mentor is an experienced teacher with the same subject qualifications who can guide and support you.

Job Responsibilities

You will primarily teach English in grades 7–9, but will also be active in the classroom during lessons in other subjects. Another subject may also become relevant. Together with colleagues, you will have overall responsibility for the student group, including the documentation and contacts this entails. Contact with home schooling and collaboration with guardians are important parts of the job. The role involves planning, implementing, and following up on teaching together with the work team, as well as supporting students in social interaction.

Qualifications

We are primarily looking for you with a teaching degree and subject qualification in English for the later years of compulsory school. Additional merit if you also have subject qualification in Art. We would appreciate it if you have a background and knowledge in working with students in need of special support.

You are good at collaborating while also having the ability to act independently. We value that you bring ideas, humor, and warmth to your work, but also possess clarity, the ability to create good structure, and set boundaries. It is important that you have a genuine interest in teenagers facing various types of challenges.

You are confident and clear in your professional role. Furthermore, the ability and experience to build good relationships with educators, students, and guardians is highly valued.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and experience of previous work with the target group.

A valid driver's license (Category B) is required for the position.
