Our Operations

At the Emergency Department for Infectious Diseases, we receive adult patients with acute infections, i.e., contagious diseases and other infectious conditions requiring specialist care. We examine, investigate, and treat our patients during their visit with us. Sometimes the patient can leave the hospital after just a few hours, while others need to be admitted for continued care. The pace of work is often fast, and the patient flow can sometimes be intense, making the workdays interesting and educational. Our emergency department is open between 07:30 – 21:30 every day of the week.

Your Role

As a Nursing Assistant (Undersköterska) at the Infectious Disease Emergency Department, you work in a team with doctors, nurses, and other nursing assistants. Your role is to contribute to efficient initial care and good nursing care for our acutely ill patients. You will encounter patients with a wide variety of symptoms and conditions.

You perform checks of vital parameters and sample collection for the patients, both in the acute phase and during further investigation. Other tasks that our nursing assistants are responsible for include wound cultures, wound dressing changes, ECG recording, bladder scans, and catheterization. You also participate in various examinations, such as assisting our doctors with lumbar punctures. This is exciting investigative work that leads to us being able to diagnose, start treatment, and often cure our patients.

The work involves significant patient contact and requires a developed understanding of the patient's care needs. You become the patient's source of security and support in a situation that can be perceived as stressful for both the sick person and their relatives. We value the nursing assistant's perspective in patient-near work, and see your professional knowledge as an important complement to other professions. Among our nursing assistants, some specialize in hygiene routines, wound care, and skin assessments. As an employee here, you will be offered the opportunity for education and further specialization in the area that interests you.

Your Qualifications

You are a trained Nursing Assistant with at least 2 years of relevant professional experience. It is an advantage if you have previous experience in emergency care, familiarity with sample collection, catheterization, and other patient examinations such as ECG.

You thrive working in an acute flow, with constantly new patient contacts. You have the ability to structure your work and prioritize your tasks even when under high workload. You are able to work independently and take initiative in daily work. You take pride in your areas of responsibility and see the whole picture in the care of the individual. We place great emphasis on personal qualities, the ability to communicate, and the desire to develop through continuous learning.
