Do you want to develop the industrial systems that underpin our heating and cooling business? We are now looking for a Strategist for Industrial Systems.
By the people of Umeå, for the people of Umeå.
We are an energy and communications company owned by Umeå Municipality and all its residents. With secure and accessible solutions, we ensure that the growing city of Umeå is always heated, lit, and connected. By spreading knowledge, driving community projects, and supporting a vibrant association life, we help shape the future.
Your role in our team
Do you want to take a holistic approach to system assets in a socially critical energy operation – and set the direction for how our control systems, data, and digital solutions will develop in the coming years?
Our heating and cooling business is in a crucial development phase with increased digitalization and higher demands for structure, security, and long-term management. As a Strategist for Industrial Systems, you will play a central role in developing our industrial system assets and creating a sustainable structure for the future.
You will be responsible for issues relating to lifecycle, strategy, risk, standardization, and development within an area that is crucial for both delivery capability and future business.
This role is about creating direction, building structure, and driving digitalization within the OT domain in a way that supports the organization's goals over time.
You will work closely with operations, production, IT, security, projects, and procurement. The role is therefore important at the intersection of technology, operations, and business, where you need to understand the details but, above all, hold the big picture together.
In the role, you will among other things:
develop and refine the strategy and target vision for the industrial systems and digitalization of our heating and cooling business
contribute to ensuring that facility and investment plans align with the organization's long-term needs
develop architecture principles, technical standards, and long-term strategic choices
enable better use of data for operations, optimization, analysis, and decision support
contribute to meeting relevant requirements within areas such as NIS2, IEC 62443, and information security
act as a requirement setter and client in investment and development projects
You will become an important part of the Facility Development team and play a central role in the entire heating and cooling business. We are facing increased digitalization where data, optimization, and robust systems become decisive for future energy systems.
To succeed in the role
You have the ability to create structure in complex environments, doing so through close collaboration with others. You see the connections between technology, risk, and business, and can translate shared insights into clear priorities and long-term strategic choices.
You are strategic, but at the same time have sufficient understanding of the operational reality to land in solutions that work in everyday life. You thrive in collaboration, build trust through dialogue with different functions, and are confident in driving issues forward over time.
We believe you have:
a degree in engineering within energy, automation, electrical engineering, industrial IT, or another background we consider equivalent
several years of experience with IT/OT in an industrial environment, preferably within energy, cogeneration, or process industry
good understanding of control systems, integrations, and facility-adjacent systems
experience in driving development, change, and structure
ability to translate technical issues into risk and business perspectives
good collaboration skills and experience working in complex interfaces
a valid driver's license (Category B) is required
It is meritorious if you have experience with, for example, SCADA, DCS, PLC, OT architecture, cybersecurity, information security, or asset management.
With us, you get more than just a job
With us, you get an important role in an operation that needs to function every day. For real. Our delivery depends on the functionality, availability, and lifespan of our assets. In this role, you will help create the conditions for a secure, robust, and future-proofed heating and cooling business.
Umeå Energi is the energy and communications company for the people of Umeå. We develop and deliver sustainable solutions that are important for people, businesses, and society. Here, you get to work in an operation with great responsibility, high competence, and a clear mission.
By the people of Umeå, for the people of Umeå.
