Department of Surgery and Urology

We are Akademiska sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic events, within a strong community with your colleagues. We welcome your application!

Our Operations

Are you a nursing assistant interested in highly specialized surgical care? Do you want to work on a ward with varied tasks and the opportunity to try work other than just ward duties? Then workplace 70E is for you!

Ward 70E is a vascular and acute surgical care unit providing both emergency and planned care. We provide highly specialized vascular surgical care and operate on, among other things, complex aortic aneurysms (bulges in the aorta). Acute surgical patients arrive at the ward from the emergency department around the clock with mixed diagnoses and varying lengths of stay, meaning no two days are alike. On the ward, nursing assistants, nurses, and doctors work in teams with several other professional groups, all focused on the patient.

Your Role

As a nursing assistant, you are responsible for the patient's basic care, pre- and postoperative care, wound dressings, catheter and drainage care, monitoring of vital parameters, and mobilizing patients, etc. It is important that you are comfortable with work that can occasionally be physically demanding, such as patient transfers and handling hospital beds. The pace of work varies, and the tasks are diverse, which will give you broad competence and good knowledge of surgical nursing. The ward has good routines and structure.

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a trained nursing assistant with a professional certificate – preferably with experience in hospital care. If you have experience with the medical record system Cosmic, we view this as a merit.

Your Competencies

We value qualities such as curiosity, engagement, willingness to learn new things, teamwork, a positive attitude, and flexibility. You work according to a clear process, organize and plan your work well, complete what you start, and meet deadlines. You are confident even in uncertain situations, stand up for your opinions, have the courage to speak up, and can distinguish between issues and personal matters. Furthermore, you take active initiative in social situations, easily create new relationships, and collaborate without hierarchy, focusing on the common goal. You also easily put yourself in others' shoes, listen, understand, and show consideration, while being flexible and finding win-win solutions in collaboration with others.

You have good knowledge of Swedish and can express yourself clearly both verbally and in writing, as the work involves close contact with patients, relatives, and colleagues. You always put the patient first and are responsible and motivated in your work. Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.

We Offer

Permanent employment or temporary assignment, full-time or part-time. The position involves rotational shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and eventually nights.

Region Uppsala values the qualities that equal gender distribution and diversity bring to the operations and welcomes applicants of all genders and with different backgrounds, abilities, and life experiences.

Region Uppsala mobilizes all permanent staff based on the needs of the total defense. This entails no obligations for the individual employee in peacetime but is solely a planning measure.

Before deciding on employment, a check of suspicion and criminal records will be conducted for all job seekers who, in the sought position, may work within psychiatric care, habilitation, care for children and youth, or involuntary care for substance abusers, areas covered by optional register extracts.
