Tree Security Manager for Railway Projects

Kraftsam is currently looking for a Tree Security Manager for a consultancy role within the National Tree Security Program. The assignment primarily involves work in Central Sweden, with the base for contract supervision located where Trafikverket (Swedish Transport Administration) has offices in the Central region: Gävle or Borlänge. The role may also involve travel across the country as certain measures require physical presence.

About the Assignment

Forests grow close to railway tracks throughout Sweden. To reduce the risk of trees falling onto the tracks, tree security measures, residual tree security, and vegetation clearance are carried out. If necessary, sightlines at level crossings are also cleared and maintained.

As a Tree Security Manager, your main tasks will include securing new track sections and maintaining previously secured sections. Residual tree security on already secured lines, clearing and maintenance at level crossings, as well as minor measures on unsecured lines, may also occur during the assignment period.

The role also involves supporting the National Tree Program with forestry expertise during requirement setting and future procurement of contractors, as well as participating in planning for upcoming tree security and maintenance works. This may include marking affected areas and conducting fieldwork prior to valuation, such as tagging.

Responsibilities

In the role of Tree Security Manager, you will work with tasks including:

  • Monitoring compliance with contract documents in ongoing contracts
  • Reviewing invoicing documentation, including the contractor's daily logs
  • Conducting regular production meetings with the contractor and attending construction meetings as needed
  • Monitoring the contractor's project plan regarding environment, safety, and quality
  • Tracking and reporting deviations and changes in logging and clearance work
  • Monitoring the contractor's safety rounds
  • Ensuring coordination with the Construction Work Environment Coordinator (BAS-U)
  • Conducting consultations with the contractor regarding work planning
  • Monitoring the implementation plan for land access and logging work
  • Working with the project's environmental support to obtain necessary permits from supervisory authorities and municipalities, including shore protection dispensations
  • Conducting consultations with municipalities as per the established process for logging within detailed planning areas
  • Continuously reporting project status to the relevant project manager or equivalent role
  • Maintaining good contact with affected property owners and authorities
  • Participating in meetings with project management
  • Ensuring land access for the contractor, in collaboration with Trafikverket's land negotiators and early-stage project managers if needed
  • Supporting project management in the National Tree Program with new requirements, procurement of new contracts, and potential new working methods or innovation projects

The assignment also includes transferring knowledge to Trafikverket employees regarding the tasks performed by the external consultant.

About You

To fit the role, you are relationship-building, pedagogical, and have strong collaboration skills. You are solution-oriented, flexible, and proficient in Swedish both verbally and in writing. You are goal- and result-oriented and have a strong ability to follow up on work regarding time and cost.

The work involves many internal and external contacts, making the ability to collaborate and communicate clearly essential.

Requirements

You must meet the following competence requirements:

  • University degree in Forestry, minimum 3 years (180 ECTS)
  • Valid Category B driver's license
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in tree security projects along railways or power lines
  • Minimum 3 years of documented experience in risk tree inspections or inventories near railways
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in project management or construction management within infrastructure projects
  • Minimum 3 years of experience developing and working in GIS systems
  • SoS Leader certification, BAS-A/S
  • Completed course in Electrical and Traffic Safety and electrical risk assessment at railways
  • Completed course: "Work Methods for Tree Felling Near Railways"
  • Hold a certified Forester degree

Scope and Location

The employment level is estimated to be 80–100% throughout the assignment period. Remote work is allowed up to 100% of office hours in agreement with the client, but the role involves significant travel across the country as certain measures require physical presence.

The base for contract supervision is where Trafikverket has offices in the Central region: Gävle or Borlänge.

The assignment must start no later than 2026-07-01, but can start earlier provided the contract is in effect. The contract is valid until 2028-07-01, with the possibility of extension by 2 + 2 years.

Working Hours

Working hours are typically Monday to Friday, excluding holidays, between 07:00 and 18:00. The standard working week is 40 hours. Lunch time is not included in working hours. Saturdays, Sundays, and Swedish public holidays are usually non-working days.
