Description

We are now looking for a school librarian for two schools in central Värnamo. Trälleborgsskolan is a grades 4-6 school with approx. 440 students, as well as an Adapted Primary School grades 1-6 with approx. 35 students. Exposkolan is also a grades 4-6 school with approx. 260 students. Exposkolan was completed after extensive renovations in 2019, and Trälleborgsskolan is newly built and started its operations in August 2024. In connection with the renovation and new construction, beautiful and purposeful school libraries were created, located in the "heart" of each respective school.

The schools have experienced educators and we have a high proportion of certified staff. Both schools are multicultural, and several different languages are spoken, which means we have clear collaboration with mother-tongue teachers.

Responsibilities

The school library plays a significant role in the school's compensatory mission by meeting students' different needs and prerequisites and can contribute to opening windows to the world by widening reference frames and building resilience against disinformation. The school library should also promote the status of literature and interest in education, while reflecting the interests and differences in students' daily lives.

We are looking for you who want to work for reading joy, interesting conversations, cultural experiences, language development, a lively library, and much more. As a school librarian at Trälleborgsskolan and Exposkolan, you lead and participate in pedagogical activities and thereby contribute to students' goal achievement and strengthening of their linguistic abilities. This includes, among other things, conducting lessons in the library or classroom, collaboration with after-school centers in various forms, participation in and responsibility for joint activities, participating in staff and development meetings, participating in breaks (e.g., through the "library break" concept), and generally being an active and present adult at the school. The assignment includes driving reading-promoting projects, teaching MIK (media and information literacy), and organizing cultural activities.

You inspire colleagues and students through book discussions and an inviting environment in the library. You work with purchasing, weeding, activities, and other practical matters in the library, and you collaborate with the work teams regarding reading, projects, and teaching. You work based on the Child and Education Administration's School Library Plan, current legislation, and the curriculum.

We are keen that you should have the prerequisites to perform good work. This is done by, among other things, being part of the school library network and receiving support from the municipality's school library coordinator as well as the city library.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a university degree in library and information science or equivalent.

We would like you to have experience working as a school librarian or other pedagogical work within the school, as well as knowledge of compensatory aids and their function in teaching.

You have a good ability to work together with others and create good relationships with both students and colleagues. You see every individual's opportunity for development and learning and encourage dialogue, participation, and engagement. You also take initiative and responsibility for the work moving forward, whether you work alone or together with others. You contribute new ideas and perspectives and often see more than one possible solution in different situations.

Conditions

The position is filled subject to necessary decisions being made.

In Värnamo Municipality, all permanent positions are advertised as full-time. If you instead wish for part-time work and the activity can accommodate a lower degree of employment, this is of course an option.
