Neuro Area – Nurse for Eye Surgery
We are Akademiska sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic moments, within a strong community of colleagues. We welcome your application!
Our Operations
Do you want to work in a highly specialized environment where technology, pace, and team spirit meet – and where you truly make a difference in patients' vision and quality of life? Then you might be the one we are looking for.
At our eye surgery department, within the Neuro Area, you will work in a varied setting with four operating rooms – two in day surgery and two in central surgery. We also have a treatment room for intravitreal injections and some outpatient activities linked to the unit.
Our work is characterized by a high patient flow with many short procedures, creating an efficient pace and an stimulating workday. Here, you will encounter a wide range of surgeries – from cataract and glaucoma to retina, cornea, strabismus, oculoplastics, and eye trauma. We operate on both children and adults, primarily under local anesthesia, but we also have anesthesia resources available several days a week. Additionally, we receive patients from other regions who require specialized eye surgery.
Here, you will have a varied role where you rotate between central surgery, day surgery, injection activities, and outpatient care – perfect for you who want to develop broadly within eye care.
Your Role
We are looking for you who want to shape and develop the future of eye surgery together with us.
As a nurse here, you will become a central part of an engaged and cohesive team where we work closely together with the patient in focus. Your work is varied and meaningful – you are responsible for patient care before and after surgery, assist with injection treatments, work on the surgical ward, and participate in outpatient activities.
We value your ideas and commitment. Here, you will receive not only a secure introduction but also good opportunities to develop further in your professional role. For those who wish, there is an opportunity to further educate yourself as an eye care nurse within the framework of the position.
Your Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN)
Experience in surgical operations and/or eye care is meritorious, but not a requirement. We also welcome those who are curious about eye care and wish to develop within an exciting and high-tech field.
Your Competence
You thrive in team settings and have a genuine commitment to nursing where the patient is always at the center. You are positive, flexible, and contribute to a good work environment. A high pace motivates you, and you see variation and development as something inspiring.
What We Offer
Here, you will find a workplace where you can develop, feel comfortable, and make a difference every day.

- Working hours Monday–Friday, daytime
- Individually adapted introduction for a secure start
- Strong team spirit and high competence within the work group

Region Uppsala assigns all permanent staff based on the needs of the total defense. This entails no obligations for the individual employee in peacetime but is solely a planning measure.
Before making a decision on employment, checks of suspicion and criminal records are conducted for all job seekers who, in the sought position, may come to work within psychiatric care, habilitation, care of children and youth, or compulsory care for substance abusers, areas covered by facultative record extracts. This thus applies to all who will work close to patients, even if the tasks at present are not intended to primarily involve work with the aforementioned patient groups.
