Job Description

As a Battery Design Engineer at AVL, you will step directly into the core of future electromobility development. Here, you will work hands-on with advanced battery technology and drive the development of high-performance energy storage systems – from early concepts and design, through simulation and testing, to a fully validated product. This role combines technical excellence, systems thinking, and practical engineering in a dynamic environment where innovation and quality go hand in hand.

You will become an integral part of an international competence network and a key player in our local initiative to build Sweden’s strongest development environment for battery systems. Here, you will have the opportunity to influence technical solutions, processes, and customer projects – and help shape the future of battery technology.

In the role of Battery Design Engineer, you will work on the development of future battery systems by creating design solutions and validation plans, analyzing results from simulations and tests, and transferring these insights into the design. You will be involved in the assembly and commissioning of batteries prior to testing and delivery, as well as conducting tests on both modules and packs during battery testing. The role also involves providing technical support in customer projects and contributing to project deliveries by reviewing and releasing technical documentation. You will lead the work on quality documentation for battery systems and components, while driving networking activities within the battery field together with AVL’s global network and developing local competence. Additionally, you will support business development by contributing expertise and participating in request for quotation (RFQ) processes and project proposals.

Profile

• We are looking for someone with a background in battery development and a passion for creating sustainable energy solutions.
• At least 3–5 years of experience in energy storage system development; experience from SOP projects is advantageous.
• Relevant Master’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering/Mechatronics or equivalent experience in battery system development.
• Strong understanding of HV battery design and relevant safety standards and regulations.
• Experience in battery design at module and pack level.
• Practical experience with CAD tools such as CATIA, Creo, or similar.
• Valid driver’s license (Category B).
• Fluent in Swedish and English.

Advantageous:

• Experience in battery testing (module/pack).
