The Gastroenterology Clinic, MT-Clinic, is the regional gastroenterology clinic for the South East Healthcare Region. The clinic consists of the sections for endoscopy, hepatology, IBD, and neurogastroenterology. Care is provided at our outpatient clinic, Pelvic Floor Function Unit (BFE), day care unit, inpatient ward, and endoscopy unit. All clinic facilities are modern and purpose-built. We have 25 doctors among a total of approximately 140 employees at the clinic.

Job Description

At the Gastroenterology Clinic, you work as a specialist physician in both outpatient and inpatient care. The work on the sections is cross-professional and team-based, with established networks to other specialties and regular multidisciplinary conferences. As a specialist physician, there is continuous competence development and subspecialization, where the work usually focuses mainly on one of the sections over time.

At our clinic, the Pelvic Floor Function Unit, where patients with functional gastrointestinal diseases are assessed, shares premises with the liver clinic and the IBD clinic.

The medical and surgical IBD operations are co-located at our IBD clinic and inpatient unit, which facilitates joint assessments and follow-up of our patients at different stages of their disease.

The endoscopy unit belongs to the MT-Clinic, where medical gastroenterologists primarily work.

We currently staff five endoscopy rooms. In autumn 2026, we will move to completely new premises with a total of eight endoscopy rooms, seven of which will belong to our clinic.

Region Östergötland currently has two NHV (National Healthcare Services) assignments where the MT-Clinic is involved. These include reconstructive IBD surgery, starting from spring 2026, and for several years, care for women with anorectal childbirth injuries.

On-call duties are part of your role as a specialist physician. The clinic is responsible for a 24/7 gastroenterological on-call line, which includes ward rounds on our care unit during weekends.

Research is highly prioritized at the clinic, and we conduct high-level research within all our profile areas. There is an opportunity to undergo doctoral education with supervision at the clinic or to continue research as an already PhD-holding individual. Teaching medical students is a natural and important part of your work as a specialist physician.

Our attitude is that physicians at the clinic should be able to complete their tasks during working hours. Therefore, we work with clear schedules that also include administrative time. We believe it is important to feel job satisfaction and to feel at the end of the workday that you have done a good job.

About You

You have a Swedish medical license (to be attached to the application) and good knowledge of the Swedish language in speech and writing (Swedish C1). You are either already a specialist in medical gastroenterology and hepatology or wish to further specialize in this specialty.

Good teamwork skills and strong communication abilities are fundamental and important traits. In the role of specialist physician, you will work independently, so we are looking for someone who is driven by the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize their work. You demonstrate good judgment towards patients, relatives, and colleagues, and have a good ability to make correct assessments. We are looking for someone who is curious and engaged with a strong desire to develop as a physician.
